I had fun talking about last season on the board so let's do it again. New season started tonight and first thing I gotta say, this cast is ugly as hell. However, they aren't there for a beauty contest and most of them seem like really good chefs. I really like the guy that won the first elimination challenge, the bigger dude with the red beard. He's gonna be the chef I'm pulling for. So, who do you have? What did you like about the first episode? I already miss Leah from last season but thankfully I can still marvel at the beauty that is Padma.

It looks like it's going to be a great season, alot going on in the first episode, surprising that the Indian girl had to ask if a clam was the same thing as an oyster, I'm liking Jennifers chances, hand picked by Eric Ripert to run one of his restaurants you know she's gotta be talented and great w/ the seafood. I think the sad scallops and shrimp should of gone home instead of who went, at least she took a bit of a risk.

I really liked it, I agree I think this is a good group of chefs this season. I didn't watch the Masters season so I was looking forward to this one. So far Jen is my favorite.

I love Top Chef...my boyfriend and I pick out our top choices on the first episodes, and give them nicknames. I chose Funny Beard and Older Brother. I also kinda like Weird Facial Piercings Lady, but I don't think she'll get to the end.

Funny Beard won the first challenge, so I'm happy with my choices so far.

My boyfriend liked a few more...Older Brother, Younger Brother, Funny Beard, Fat Jewish Guy, Bitch...I think that was most of them.

And I loved Top Chef Masters, and my favorite won. Congratulations to Rick Bayless.

i like that quickfires are for cash. in past seasons some people really won a bunch of them and more often than not the advantage they gained ended up fucking them over. hopefully the gold chip was a one time thing. im glad they did the relay first.its my least favorite quickfire. i want to see them cook from a vending machine again. kinda disappointed that alot of thses guys already have awards. i like to see a scrub get better as the show progresses

I was wondering if that would come up but the military thing is touchy, and most people wouldn't want to appear critical of actual service people who are following orders.

Also, it doesn't really help. Obviously the show is very gay issue friendly so they include her comments about marriage which a lot of the audience has to atleast be comfortable with at this point considering it's on Bravo, but even if she said something about gays in the military they'd know thats just asking for trouble and alienation.

The top French chef seemed quite gracious and was not overly critical like I thought he
would be. I agree the 2 winning teams are the top 3 with beardy being the 4th. I don't think annoying Mike (greek/ny guy) is that great. Let's just jump to the finale already!

Molé is a rich chile-based sauce that varies from region to region in mexico. Some locales add pureed pepinos (small green pumpkin seeds), others will add pureed cacahuetes (peanuts), or unsweetened chocolate. However it is made, it is rich and earthy, with a bottom-end spiciness. Great stuff.

I think Ash got eliminated because he is consistantly bad, and habitually second guesses himself. Cold pork just seemed like a god awful idea, it's going to mute the flavors and you're not going to want to keep eating it. They atleast seemed to have something they liked about the two ladies, and they atleast die on their feet.


Does it really matter if Ash goes home this week, or next week, or last week? He doesn't stand a chance against even the bottom rung of the consistantly good people, he's just a place holder so they can have some episodes. My Ashley got shit canned last week, and she got way more praise than Ash or Robin, but she cant hang with Beardy, Philly girl or the older Volt brother so it's really a foregone conclusion.

He has won I don't remember how many eliminations and quick fires already and has never really made a dish that the judges had a bad comment for.

I dont think he lost because of the dessert course. I think he fumbled on the pork belly, that was in his wheelhouse and should have knocked it out of the park. From the judges opinions though, it was just meh.
