So (follow me on this please) 10 years ago the sister of my wife (at that time) needed 5 grand for a lawyer for her divorce. We loaned her it. Since then (3 years ago) we divorced. Now I am in a financial spot. Should I
1 - press the sister for my half
2 - press the ex for my half
3 - piss off and make due

Eek that is a delima.
Option 3 may be the better choice if it avoids conflict that could make things worse.

You could ask your ex, but I have a bad feeling it won't do any good. Unless, she needs the money too. Then she might be willing to ask her sister for it. Of course, this depends upon your relationship with your ex. Good luck.

I think you are sort of screwed. first of all, it was ten years ago that you loaned her the money. plus, you are no longer related, and have not been for three years. You can ask for the money but I have a hard time seeing you getting anything from either one, then again, I do not know them so I could be wrong.

Rule #1. Never lend anyone money.
If you do, you should plan on not getting it back so you do not stress over it.

double down and go for #1 & #2...whats the worst that can happen, your ex can't divorce you again and her deadbeat sister would still owe you the money

What's w/ that last post ?
But back on topic I'd say you go with #2.
Why didn't the issue come up when you and your wife were going through the divorce ?

That fucking sucks.
Some people say its harsh but you should have had some sort of repayment plan in writing. My Brother-in-law is going through this right now, and its his Uncle who owes the money.
Still I think Gacey gave the best advice, just don't do it.

10 years is a long time. Did you have a written agreement somewhere? Did she pay any of the loaned money back to you or your ex-wife within the past 10 years? Is the relationship with your ex and her sister good and do you communicate with any of them?
If the answer is "No" to all of the above, pick option 3.

What kinda relationship do you have w/ your ex ?
If you have a good one maybe you can get it worked out.
