Hiking

Anyone on here like to do it? I love to hike. Not so much a fan of camping or hunting, but I'll hike for sure.


I went on a hike on Saturday in upstate New York. We set off for Noonmark Mountain in the middle of the high peaks of the Adirondacks. The hike was about 4.5 miles long over pretty tough terrain. It was about 90 degrees but overcast luckily.

The first 3.5 miles wasn't too bad. But the last mile was killer. The elevation rose 1200 feet for the last mile. Pretty rocky. By the time I reached the summit, my quads were on fire and you could ring my shirt out like a wet washcloth.

But then I looked around.

3,600 feet above sea level.

And it was absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. The view to the east could see Vermont in the distance. It was truly stunning. Rehydrated, ate, lounged under the sun that was peaking out of the shadows, listened to some music. Pretty soul rejuvenating.

I hate the decent more than anything. It kills my right knee to go down steps or declines so it was pretty rough. But all in all, a great experience. About 7 hours round trip.

I should go on another on Friday. Much smaller scale being that I'm back home.

I love hiking and use to do it a lot. I hike when I visit Mexico, usually a day or 2 out of 4-5 days that I am there. I have hiked all around East Texas, mountains in central Colorado, swamps of Georgia, and all over south west Germany and southeastern France. This is all non-military of course, it would be unfair to call road marches a hike.

Bought cigarettes in the gift shop and the followed a trail down the other side of the mountain to a ridge that would get us started on the Presidential mountain range. We spent the night on the ridge and then continued to hike a few peaks of the range. It was really cool.

I don't think I have been on a true hike since girl scouts in the 4th grade. If I'd lose some more weight, I would enjoy it.

My Family vacation home is smack in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I love hiking and rock hopping.

I enjoy hiking but don't think I could do one that high, hammer. A nice beginner/intermediate level for me. Too bad there's no mountains around me. Thank God my parents live in places where I can hike and enjoy the great outdoors. Beautiful pics, btw.

Love to hike! Been hiking since I was a kid. Grew up in the shadows of the GSMNP, went to Philmont three times as a scout, etc... Recently went to Rockies with my son, here are pics. (http://s969.photobucket.com/albums/ae180/Beals_Pics/Rocky%20Mountains%20July%202009/)We had a great time, but the altitude really got to us.
