View Full Version : What did you watch after school as a kid?
I have a feeling this is really going to date some people here by their answers.
But let's be honest, nobody did fucking homework when they got home...we all went straight for the tube.
For me, it was Animaniacs. Best children's cartoon that probably shouldn't have been a children's cartoon ever (until the government literally made them make it educational...then it turned to shite).
I waited for the 4:30 Movie.
Sometimes they'd have theme weeks like Godzilla or Planet of the Apes.
Fantastic stuff.

Animaniacs was good, so was Pinky & the Brain (or the cartoon Ron & Fez as I now think of it), Taz, Bugs etc. On the Disney side, I used to watch Timon & Pumba , Talespin, Duck Tales and Aladdin.

I can't believe that even existed. It's kind of funny that what started as a raunchy R-rated comedy eventually ended up as a kids' cartoon.

That was a good one too. How about the Centurions?
Tiny Toons was another one.
FOX and WB really had good lineups and ran 3-4 hours of cartoon/kids shows with mild adult content a day.
That really cemented the idea of Cartoon Network being feasible, because so many of those shows were successful on a daily basis.
Batman the Animated Series FTW!

Goddammit, anytime Animaniacs is brought up I forget Tiny Toons existed and how good it was.
I neglected Batman because I was thinking it was like X-Men which was a Sunday morning show, but I think you're right. It's the best.
Another good one then now that I think of it was the Spiderman show, not as good as Batman or X-Men but really damn good.

Depended. In elementary school, it would have been something like "The Electric Company" or Bugs Bunny and/or Tom & Jerry cartoons.
Later, it would have probably been MTV. I'm old enough so that it would have been videos and an occasional pop-in by Martha Quinn or JJ Jackson.

I used to watch Voltron, He-Man and She-Ra (fuck you, her villains were cool), Thundercats, Silverhawks, Inspector Gadget, Transformers, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Pirates of Dark Water, sometimes Degrassi Jr. High, Darkwing Duck, shit like that. To be honest, though, I watched afterschool cartoons straight through college, pretty much up until Batman: the Animated Series ended. I watched Batman Beyond too, but I don't remember if that was an afternoon show or a saturday morning show.

Dude!!! I totally forgot about cartoon network. Voltron, Gundam, DBZ, etc (toonami).
BTW am I the only one to ever watch Pirates of Dark Water?
I used to watch Voltron, He-Man and She-Ra (fuck you, her villains were cool), Thundercats, Silverhawks, Inspector Gadget, Transformers, Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Pirates of Dark Water, sometimes Degrassi Jr. High, Darkwing Duck, shit like that. To be honest, though, I watched afterschool cartoons straight through college, pretty much up until Batman: the Animated Series ended.[B/] I watched [B]Batman Beyond too, but I don't remember if that was an afternoon show or a saturday morning show.
I am officially not the only person to watch Pirates of Dark Water.
That Batman was amazing.
Loved Batman Beyond also.

Does anyone remember watching a cartoon out the same time as Speed Racer called "8 Man"?
It was about an 8th generation robot that had a second brain in its arm. Very Japanese wierd.

The 4:30 Movie on ABC had some cool shit, like the "Planet of the Apes" week. If that wasn't on, then the Atari 2600 was.
Back then, they even used to play day baseball games on a regular basis so you could catch the end of the Mets (usually a loss back in the mid-to-late 70s) and "Kiner's Korner" on channel 9.

guess I'm one of the oldest posters here (where's blowhard when you need him??)
From 1966 to 1970, ABC ran Dark Shadows, the original vampire soap, from 3 - 330. An aggressive grammar-school student letter-writing campaign (which included me) got the network to move the show to 3:30 so that we could watch it. that's what you hadda do in the days of no DVR or even VCR :-D
