You know, watching this clip, Jeff Beck wasn't kidding when he said "I've copied more licks from Les Paul than I'd like to admit." You can see where "Jeff's Boogie" came from.

If you're interested Netflix has (for instant watch) a great doc on Les Paul called, Chasing Sound.

See it today, or own it on DVD/Blu-ray.

I watched this documentary last year for the first time with my Grandfather when he was visiting from England. He was a guitar player when he was younger and totally dug the movie...He'll be 93 the day after I turn 31 in December.

He did play regularly, and his birthday parties were major events every year.

When I graduated college, Les Paul was given an honorary degree. All of us were loud and rude thru the entire graduation until Les was given his degree and you could hear a pin drop. He then got to give an acceptance speech, "Congratulations to all the graduates." And the crowd went nuts. Standing ovation.

Made it to 94, and was apparently STILL PERFORMING weekly shows... If you can leave your house at 94, that's pretty impressive. This dude was still playing guitar for audiences.

Talk about nailing it right out of the gate, Les Paul and Leo Fender did just that.

To this day every electric guitar on the market is compared to, or looks like a direct ripoff, of either a Fender or a Les Paul.

RIP, Les.

Les Paul liked talk radio and use to be a frequent caller to the Tom Snyder WABC nighttime show of the late 80,s like me.If I remember correctly he identified himself as Les from Mahwah. After he would call in , I would call in to Tom and use the guitar riff from ' How high the moon" as my intro to my famous Radio-shark Mathmatic Quiz as tribute to him. Good Times..

God Bless Les and Tom..

Sad news indeed. Rest in peace, Les.

My parents bought me my first Gibson in 1978 and I still play it to this day.
