God damn am I pissed off. Got back to my place last night with my chick about 11 and felt a few wet spots on the floor in our bedroom. Started moving some stuff and realized along the whole back wall was completely soaked. Moved everything out of the bedroom and went to my moms place to sleep about 1. Got back to our place about 730 this morning only to have standing water in the entire bedroom and bathroom. Have the maitenance guy here now with a shopvac. A 2x3 square area of the carpet completely filled the shopvac. I can't imagine how much water there is in total. I am so fucking pissed off. I can't wait to get out of this shithole apartment.

Your chick is about 11 years old? Seems like u got bigger problems like a wet rug.
Joking aside, I have had to deal with flooding issues on occassion and I must say it stinks .... My advice is to get as much water out as possible (obviously) and apply some carpet cleaner when it is a bit damp to help with the smell.
Good luck !

Water is continuing to come in. Shopvaced the entire place and there is still standing water.
And about my 11 year old girlfriend, its my cats fault. I leave my place and my cat invites all these young girls over.

80 gallons?
U got a busted water main line. U should probably call the town to see if they are having pressure issues or if they detect some kinda break. 80 gallons is a lot of fkn water to be rainfall

At your local aspca. Make sure you interview all the cats though. Most of them are just posers.

Our water line doesn't run along that wall.

I may just be stupid, but why didn't you call emergency maintenance last night? That's the point of living in an apartment.
A similar thing happened to me a couple yrs ago during the super bowl. I was just about to walk out to go to the bar for the game and my carpet squished. I have a maintenance closet that has a 90 gallon water heater in it and I thought it might be leaking. I don't have access to it, so I listened against the door and heard water gushing like a hose. Turned out it was a line to an outside spigot that wasn't properly insulated. Fucking morons.

Cause our place is run by a bunch of shitheads and didn't want to deal with it last night. I don't think it would have made a difference though with water still coming in now. I just talked to a lady who lives in a house across the street and her basement is completely flooded as well.

I do love how the leasing ppl think that if they leave it alone it will just go away. They tried to do that with my situation. I live across the hall from the leasing office, reported it to them, and they wanted me to either call or go online and file a maintenance request. I "calmly" told them that my apartment was flooding and that if anything is ruined I was going to hold them responsible for anything that got damaged if they didn't do anything about it right then.
It was something as easy as turning off a valve going to the spigot.

Same thing happened to me a few years ago. Pipe burst in the neighbors apartment next to ours, and ended up with knee deep water throughout the entire living room/dining room. Damage was so bad they had to move us to another apartment for 3-4 days, and tear up the entire carpet. Neighbors had to be completely moved out of their place and into an entire new one.
Tough break brother...maybe you can get the front office to skip the rent this month (or at least knock it down some) since you've been forced outta your place?

And more major thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon. This just keeps getting better.
We were talking of moving out when our lease was up at the end of sept. Now its a definite. I'm gonna have the landlord come down later and bitch at them about either lowering the rent or not paying it. I'm glad we got to it early enough so I could get a bunch of my books and comics out of my bedroom. I would have been so pissed if those would have been ruined.

yeah thats really shitty. Time to move dude. If you have renters insurance start hitting people up for receipts for flatscreens and laptops and shit.

Bottom floor. I guess the sump pump in the utility room went out. So water was coming up through the floor.
Just went and looked at a new place that looks decent that should be ready to move in next monday. My mom is letting me and my chick stay at her place until we can move in somewhere else. Hopefully we can have everything out of here by wednesday and say goodbye to this shithole.
What a horrible fucking day.

I feel for you. I live on the third floor and my apartment has been flooded twice because of the 4th floor apt. First time, their hot water heater leaked (WHY it's in their apt and not in the basement like everyone else's is anyone's guess).
The second time, a pipe burst because of work the new owner was doing. I woke up one morning and heard the shower running. I thought my husband had gotten up early but he was right next to me! I sprang out of bed to find water POURING from all my light fixtures!
Douchebag dodged me for months until he sold the place and moved. STUPID FUCKER!

i live o nthe 3rd floor and we had flooding once. the 1st floor tenants shower drain was clogged and the showerhead had developed a leak. they were on vacation for a month and the whole building filled up with water. we had to swim down 3 fights to get out. the place took forever to dry out. and the carpets still smelled musty.

My asshole brother in law owns the building I am in and I am in a basement apartment. There are 3 boilers and 3 water heaters here. One water heater sprang a leak and apartment got flooded. It took him a week to get someone in here and change my carpet. I went and bought a shop vac and did my own clean up. Then, 6 moths layer, the other water heater did the same thing and I got flooded again. I said to him, change the 3rd as well, because they are all the same age, it seems like that one will go too. He said no. Its just a matter of time. He is a piece of shit. The second flood he didn't want to do anything about the carpet because it is "new". So I pulled it up and ran dehumidifiers and saoked it in vinegar to prevent mold. It stank horrible. Thank goodness I have my computers and stuff all off the floor.
