Ron Benson never talks about foreign films

...why is that? He claims to be a big film buff, but I rarely hear Mr. Benson talk at any length about foreign films the way he'll go on about Tarantino or Scorsese, or Wes Anderson, etc. I would go so far as to say, just going by the number of countries there are in the world making films, there are far more great foreign (non-American) filmmakers in the history of cinema than there are great American filmmakers. Just a few off the top of my head: Andrei Tarkovsky, Akira Kurosawa, Francois Truffaut, Seijun Suzuki, F.W. Murnau, Fritz Lang (though he and some others eventually went to Hollywood, I still consider them foreign), Jean Luc Godard, Luis Bunuel, Yasujiro Ozu, Ingmar Bergman, Carl Theodore Dreyer, Werner Herzog, David Cronenberg, Kenji Fukasaku, Federico Fellini, Kenji Mizoguchi, Jean Renoir, Michelangelo Antonini, John Woo, Dario Argento, Wong Kar-Wai, Sergei Eisenstein, Kon Ichikawa, Mike Leigh, Takashi Miike, Shinya Tsukamoto and so-forth. But by far my favorite director--Lee Von Helm.

Any movie by any one of these directors would make anything in the Wes Anderson catalog look like a steaming pile of shit...no idea what Ron Benson sees in that man. We get it, Wes--your characters are always quirky and witty and you always have hand-drawn fonts in your titles and an obscure indie soundtrack that's too hip for its own good...hipster-chic bullshit, all style, no substance.

So, who is the big man now?

What kind of audience do you think Ron & Fez cater to?

I love foreign films, but I seriously doubt the majority of listeners would want to hear Ron go on about foreign titles. The hayseeds would call in and say they if they wanted to read, they'd pick up a book.

Oh yeah, the Lee Von Helm, Ron Benson, etc... shtick has gotten stale.
