I found this interesting opinion article written by Steven Soderbergh

Format Wars (http://www.dgaquarterly.org/BACKISSUES/Summer2009/InMyOpinion/tabid/720/Default.aspx)

In case you were wondering how bad a 2.40 film looks on standard-size HD channels, our national vice president explains it all. And, he’s taken a photo of himself to prove his point.

It's been a long running debate between myself and my Mrs. as to letterboxing vs Pan & Scan. I thought with the advent of Hi Def TV's and channels this would be over; seemingly it's not, and surprising to me, HBO is among the worst offenders.

edit.

for ANC, this will help you

It fully depends on the movie for me.

"Popcorn movies" I don't give a fuck, fill the tv with your bs

Real movies I do want to see the full frame.

There's a feature on apples dvd player that will let you go fullscreen on all dvd's

I'm not a savage. All of my TV's are 16:9.

Except the one downstairs. That is only for Gamecube and Nickleodean.

OAR for me. If I record a movie and it turns out to be full screen, it immediately gets deleted.

I love this video. I share this with family friends who insist on watching full screen movies.

Steven Soderberg should try making good movies rather than worrying about what format they're watched in
