On O&A today I heard that Lyota Machida, the light heavyweight champion of the UFC drinks his own urine.

This perked my curiousity so I did a little research. Apparently you can recapture the vitamins and medications that have been flushed from your system. However you don't want to get the initial "spurt" because it will contain the most bacteria. However drinking your own urine is the equivalent of enoculating yourself against any sickness you may have had recently. People that actually engage in this, claim to feel healthier then they ever have been and I guess statistics back that up. Contrary to popular perception, urine is not a by-product of the body's waste disposal system but of blood filtration. Nutrient-filled blood passes through the liver, where toxins are removed and excreted as solid waste. The purified blood then goes through another filtering process via the kidneys, where components for which the body has no immediate use are collected in a sterile, watery solution. For that reason, it is highly sterile, consisting of 95 per cent water and five per cent nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, proteins, antibodies and other beneficial ingredients. Advocates claim it boosts immunity, energy level and sexual performance. Medical experts claim nothing. Many think this is because there is no profit if this actually works.

My only guess would be that if something was flushed from your system that you were not already immune to, that it would create an antibody and immunity in your urine. Just a guess though. The amount of germs and bacteria that we are exposed to every day is uncountable.

Anything that would cause our body to make antibodies would usually be dead by the time you pissed it out.

Urine is also only "sterile" for a short time, if you pass the same liquids repeatedly it becomes more and more toxic each time it's passed, though I'm not sure how many times it takes to become dangerous.

Seems much easier to just take a couple of vitamins to get what the "percieved" benefit of this is... I wonder what the placebo effect is on something like this, seems to me if you take the plunge into drinking your own piss you probably have a pretty strong desire for it to work, or else you're a maniac pissing into your own mouth.
