View Full Version : Accept or Ignore?

Do you accept everyone's friend request on Facebook or are you more selective as to who you befriend?

I get a few per week that I sit and think about as to whether I want this person knowing what I'm up to or if I really want to know what they're up to. It's mostly people from High School that I haven't really spoken to in a long time and I have no interest in being their "friend." These are people that if I saw them in a bar I probably would just acknowledge and move along.
I think a lot of people just see my name and say "Hey, I know that guy...let's be nosey and see what he's doing!"

I'd say a good 30%-40% of requests that I get, I ignore...repeatedly even.

i basically just check to see if i actually know the person. i got one that i had like ten friends in common with, but it was just someone i had no connection with shilling their book. you can change settings to allow differnt people different access to your shit, even if they are a "friend".

I'm about 80/20% accept/ignore. There are definite "friends" I should have ignored, for example, friends of my 19 year old sister that I haven't said more than 10 words to in my life.

I will accept another board member who I know either from meeting or from knowing here for a bit

as for non internet people, I will not accept everyone, only present friends and acquaintances and from the past only names of people I knew or hungout with in the past.. I wont accept a former High Schooler just because we graduated together or we were in the same class

on facebook you can define groups and what access you'd like each group to have.

i have lists for people from highschool or work, limiting what they can see or comment on on my page.

since myspace doesn't have those options i tend to ignore a lot more requests on there.

Death Metal Moe

I am EXTREMELY selective about who I accept on Facebook. I don't want to sift through pages of bullshit before getting to the updates of people I actually care to read about. I've declined some friend invites and ignore most of the stupid games and polls.

I almost always accept message board folk and most family members.

What's the point of that?

If you have a "friend" on facebook, why would you want to limit access? Either they're your friend, or they're not.

Which is why I use the ignore button liberally.

I use lists.
They come in handy when setting privacy on albums and such.
I have work friends on there that don't necessarily get access to party/ event albums... and I like using FB to host my pix on.

you can also filter the wall posts as well, like my default wall is "family and friends" so i only see their posts, i have a group for employees/highschool/college as well, so if i want to see those groups i click on their group name on the left side and i can see what they have to say.

I typically accept most people. I miss a lot of high school friends who have moved away and never see, so we use FB to keep in touch.

I ignore people from school who I think are probably stalkers now and would kill me if I said something they didn't agree with.

I hate getting friend requests from teenagers because I don't want them seeing my crazy life or think they have something in common with me.
