you know when they're calling
you pick up the phone
and there is a delay...
3 seconds or so

then the static kicks in
and then the unmistakable
accents says:

"Hello, this is Patrick from the
internet yellow pages" or whatev

yeah, your name is Patrick
like my name is Vishnu

one call last week showed up
on caller ID as "Heather White"
calling from Virginia

i used to hate these calls
but now i enjoy answering them
just to see what names they use

Haha - I once called to order the Hee Haw videos (drunk at 4 am) and got an Indian dude. He said his name was Earl - yeah right. He tried to sell me more videos quote "would you like to purchase a video series that has my all time favorites such as Loretta Lynn and George Jones". I laughed so hard I about fell off my couch. I asked him to tell the truth - did he know Loretta or George and he said no. I ended up buying about $400 worth of shit and he even through in vouchers for Red Lobster.

I remember when my Mom called HP tech support once and she had no clue what the guy was saying as he was using all kinds of tech jargon my mother didn't understand. She asked me to pick up the phone and talk to the guy.

Me: "Hello? Who am I speaking with?"

Him: "Hi! My name is Roger Smith."

Me: "Raja?" (and I pronounced properly, with the 'zh')

Him: "Yes?"

Me: "You know you just confirmed your real name to me right?"

Him: "erm... Uhhh."

Me: "Hey Raja. Have you been trained on how to talk to people that know very little about computers?"

Him: "Yes sir."

Me: "I suggest you use that training when people say they don't understand what you're talking about."

Him: "Yes sir."

I then gave the phone back to my Mom and they had the whole thing fixed in 5 minutes.

If she would have told me what the problem was to start with, the call wouldn't have happened in the first place.
