Popular image site blocked (http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/26/att-blocks-4chan-this-is-going-to-get-ugly/)

The possibility of this getting completely out of hand is very high.

Funny from the comments in that article:

You must be one of those kids who tried to outspend his Dad with his allowance money.

It's one of the image boards on 4chan.

4chan is just filled with the worst of the worst of the internet. They hacked Sarah Palin's email before and they just like fucking with people.

Unless AT&T relents, final score will be:
ATT:1
4Chan: 5,000

Here I thought 4chan was mostly for anime stuff, minus a few side boards.

Mike won't go to 4chan, if that says anything to you.

Well it seems this wasn't censorship, it was ATT trying to stop a DDoS attack on 4chan over their own lines. Here is a short summary of events jsc315 posted on Wackbag plus a couple links to stuff about it:

Well it seems most people dont understand whats going on here so i'll inform you of what actually happened.

-1st- Using AT&T IPs, a massive DDoS attack is initiated against img.4chan.org

-2nd- Upon discovering the situation, AT&T caps/blocks the internet traffic to img.4chan.org on it's internet service, while they attempt to further isolate and remedy the situation. To prevent further abuse from this DDoS attack, would be the only logical explanation for this decision (at least from anyone with any rationality).

-3rd- Upon discovery of the change in AT&T DSL and U-verse access to 4chan, countless legions of internet addicted shut-ins began to drop to their bellies, en masse, and initiate a collective temper-tantrum.

-4th- Site owners, editors, bloggers and columnists from several of the web's leading sites in the online anime and tech nerd subcultures began to weigh-in on the situation. Many, with bias, urge their followers to contact AT&T and voice objection to it's reaction to the situation by demanding that the access be returned to it's previous state (LMFAO!!).

-5th- The 4chan website creator, "moot", begins to publicly weigh-in on the situation, going so far as to shoot down reported comments from AT&T that they had contacted 4chan several times and requested changes to the site that were all ignored.

-6th- AT&T Internet Services division executives begin to privately voice their disbelief of the apparent level of stupidity being displayed on web blogs and boards towards their attempts to contain and remedy this DDoS attack from their IPs. After some comical discussion, AT&T execs come to the conclusion that all parties involved will not stand to see reason and will only grow more disruptive if the access isn't restored immediately......
....the order is sent to "give them what they want"

-7th- Access to img.4chan.org from AT&T's internet services is restored to it's previous(normal) level.

-8th- 4chan creator, moot, is witnessed making the remark, "OMFG0dZ3RZ, wtf is happening to mah site!!!"

-9th- After having undergone an extremely massive DDoS attack from cyber-rogues using AT&T IPs, the 4chan website is reported as temporarily being in an apparently crashed state.

-10th- A handful of cyber-rogues, a tiny minority of rational people tracking this situation, and the small group of AT&T employees and execs assigned to handle this case all fall to their knees, en masse, and laugh their asses off at how ridiculously idiotic the internets can get.

THE END...
