Let's see how the board falls on this one. Is FG a good show or is it crap?

If I only saw one episode, I'd laugh. The problem is it's the same damn joke hammered over and over and over.

Im a huge simpsons/south park fan so it pains me to say it...but family guy has its moments.
As dumb as it is, I think the stewie & brian dynamic is really funny
There are some funny moments on there.

I laugh, but I feel like I am dumb for doing it
I agree it is the same episode in different scenarios
Simpsons and South Park > Family Guy
American Dad is funny, kinda like how Futurama trumps the post 2003 Simpsons

I honestly do not understand how American Dad is considered so much worse. It's by no means a truly good show, but hell, at least it attempts to have actual characters and an actual plot that it sticks to the entire episode as opposed to 5 minutes of anything remotely coherrent and then 15 minutes of bullshit pop culture non-sequitors.
Robot Chicken is FG without the bullshit pretense.

I never could get into futurerama. Once I caught the Royal Jelly episode while tripping. It was awesome, seriously a mind fuck.

I think it used to be funnier, but I still watch every episode. But I guess I could see how other people would not like it.
I have no idea how to vote.

I love it. I like American Dad too.
"Meg, your a one of a kind girl with a mind of her own. Ya see thats what people hate."
I like Family Guy but it has gotten really lazy lately and that's saying a lot for an already lazy show. Almost every show last season had a long musical number that was obvious filler.
I prefer American Dad. Once it stopped trying to copy Family Guy and established an identity of its own it became a superior show.

Writing those musical numbers is probably a lot more work than just writing dialogue.
Anyway, I like FG. I watch the reruns at 7:30 on channel 11 and even if I remember it, I watch it again because there is so much stuff thrown in there.

Not when they are cutting to that guy from HeeHaw or just singing a pop song verbatim.
The only one I liked was the Stewie/Brian Adams video. And that was glorious.

I love the early Simpsons episodes.
I like South Park.
Why would I watch a ripoff show that combines them?

I voted "eh" because there are moments on the show I do like and am amused by, and other moments that just annoy the shit out of me.
The thing is that I think it's basically a sketch show at this point. Yeah, there's kind of a plot for each episode, but it's only a bare skeleton to fit all the sketches into. And it's quite hit and miss.

I agree totally about the Robot Chicken thing.
American Dad is one of my favorite shows. They have actual stories, and the characters are there for a reason. Not just to set up vingettes.
They had an episode where Stan went back in time, got Martin Scorcese off drugs, and then he didn't make Taxi Driver. So communists took over America cause Regan was never shot and empowered.
Then Stan remade it with John Wayne instead of Deniro, who he fired for "talking to the mirror".
That's brilliant writing.

^This.
I'm not fanatical about watching it like alotta people i know but when i do catch it, and it's not the same episode i've seen before, i usually laugh at least twice. That's the point, no?

I really see The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Robot Chicken being on a continuum, in this sense: The Simpsons started moving away from being a traditional sitcom (go back and watch an episode from the first couple of seasons) to working in weird vignettes, and Family Guy went a few steps further in that direction, making the show more about the weird digressions than any plotline of the show.
Robot Chicken just dispenses with the "plot" altogether, and the show is just one vignette after another.

I've only seen AD like 5 or 6 times, but I definitely enjoyed those episodes more than any episode of FG I've seen.
I do actually think Seth McFarlane is a tremendously talented voice actor. He's just horrible as a writer and surrounds himself with equally horrible writers.

Yeah, that's the only funny part of Family Guy though. I'd like it more if they didn't try to set up a story. It drags down whatever funny parts there are of the show, because it's poorly written and executed.

i vote to change the title of this thread.
and i did say it was the best show on TV at times....those times are 9 to 9:30pm on Sundays....and 8 to 10pm on TBS during the week....and when it comes on during Adult Swim....
OHHHH I just love that Family Guy.....and I get a kick out of it when Anberlin sings the theme song.
on a side note, I think the Cleveland Show is just a big pile of dogshit waiting to happen.
