View Full Version : Fez should Unmask Ron

Ron always hints about his dark past. It would be compelling radio to hear him go into it in detail while reflecting upon the evolution of his refined brand of comedy. Ron has been the one putting comics in the hot seat and perhaps it's time the tables were turned. Who better to be the David Frost in this equation than his crime accomplice.

This would require Fez to ask a question during an interview.

I think a Ron autobiography would be an amazing read. And might be a best seller, might be great promotion for the radio show, bringing in a new audience.
But, Fez interviewing? Other than Ron's opinion on gay marriage, he won't get anything out of him.

Yeah, let's hear it all - not just the carnies and rubes. Come on, Ron, lay it out there.
That would be a heck of a show. :smoke:

Yeah that would be the problem
I would love to hear Ron on the other side of the interview but Fez would be the wrong choice

Question 1: Is Sabbath the greatest band in the universe, or just the world?
Ron Answers "Actually I prefer the Allman brothers."
Jimmy responds with 45 minutes of barely concealed hostility and belligerence.
Ron constantly deflects, he doesn't want to be unmasked or tip his hand in any way. They would be talking about Fez 30 seconds into Fez Unmasks Ron.

I said when he isn't fucking around. He seems to be the only other person who will ask insightful questions.
But Ron wouldn't do it anyway.

I thought that sounded kind of harsh the last time Ron talked about that. What could Fezzie have possibly said that Ron didn't already know? Could you really help an addict if they don't want to be helped?

This was a really interesting, multifaceted conversation.
As I recall, Ron said that he harbored resentment for Fez for this, even though he knew he shouldn't. He said that maybe Fez speaking up wouldn't help at that very moment, but it would be in the back of his mind. His deteriorating relationship with Fez would have been one more thing to add to the list of things that were falling apart because of his behavior. As Ron put it, Fez would rather watch his friend slowly kill himself than face Ron's defensive anger.
Thus the basis for the character judgment on Fez. What's the right thing to do? It's not an easy call, but Ron said he would have more respect for Fez and would consider him a truer friend if he had spoken up, regardless of the consequences. Instead Fez was just another person cashing in on Ron's problems.

Where I bet Fez felt like he was being loyal, by not abandoning Ron.

Fez wouldn't be able to say a word to Ron without his voice craking and about to cry.
He is such a fucking pussy when it comes to Ron.
I would love to have Fez unmask Earl Douglas or even Ron do it.

Do you really call it loyalty while you are enabling? Fez was afraid. Did he care or was he apathetic? I don't know. Fez doesn't know how to get out of himself. Ron wasn't mad that Fez didn't help him, he was mad that not once did Fez ask him if he was ok.
But, Ron is doing the same thing with Fez. Ron should have stopped the show a few years ago and demanded that Fez get help. Allowing him to coast is not doing him a favor. He is becoming an amalgamation of Stalker Patti and Black Earl. A middle aged virgin(Patti) with an inability to form sentences or express a clear thought(Earl).

Ron tells Fez almost daily that his problems are messing up the show and their careers. He points out bad habits, often asks how Fez is doing, and offers great advice on what Fez should do to improve his situation. I don't think Ron feels it is his place to force Fez into anything.

I tend to agree. Ron came to grips with his demons in his own way. Fortunately, for him and us that road wasn't a cliff. For their relationship to have lasted as long as it has, there has to have been something behind-the-scenes that we don't have the right to ask.
I also agree with the earlier post about a Ron Bennington autobiography. I would be one of the first in line to buy that. Alas, that is something that won't happen until the end of his career.
I think the only one other than Fez to know that side of Ron will eventually be Dave if he doesn't end his self-destructive behaviour. I see Ron repeatedly giving Dave advice that comes from someone who travelled down that road.

Sure Ron goes through with some motions. But, if he was putting his "friend" above everything else he would force Fez into real treatment. Ron can talk Fez into anything so it wouldn't be difficult. The show could have gone on hiatus or they could rotate a 2nd mic for awhile. Maybe borrow the O&A 3rd mics.
Telling someone they have a problem is easy. Forcing them to hit rock bottom it the hard part. Honestly, if Fez had a real job or any real responsibilities he would have been forced to deal with his issues a long time ago. But, instead, he has been allowed to live like Peter Pan for decades. It might be "fun" but it isn't healthy.
If they are business partners I think it would have been a better business decision. Any executive listening to the current show would wonder why it is the Ron & Fez show.
If they are friends, I think it is in Fez's best interest to be forced into an uncomfortable situation.

You guys must remember that Fez was just an intern and then a producer during the dark days.He was Ron's employee.Knowing Fez's personality type it is hard to imagine him confronting the guy who signs his paycheck.Diaz was probably in the best position to say something.

Why don't you just take it at face value? It makes great radio. I'd guess there's some basis for Fez's neuroses, but I'm sure he hams it up a little when he's in front of the mic.
