No, not one of our favorite mods' comic books, but a new movie starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis.

I have no idea what it is about - which I like until the inevitable trailer that shows too much - but it's an apocalyptic story, which I'm always a sucker for. With the disappointment of I Am Legend and Terminator Salvation, it's another (along with The Road) to look forward too.

Mila was miscast but I didn't care that much because she's always delightful to look at. I liked this movie a lot. It features one of Denzel's most memorable characters, and it gave Gary Oldman the opportunity to do what he does best after a string of ho-hum roles where he played scrupulous do-gooders. The Hughes Bros. are striking visualists; I like how they've eschewed the Spike Lee route of racializing everything they do just because they happen to be men of color behind the lens. They were a very interesting interview on the show and I'm glad they're experiencing widespread success here.

The Book of Eli is a solid action drama; a movie that often thinks it's saying more than it is, and at other times, says way more than it should. But if you can look past the Bible thumping propoganda that begins to be insufferable by the film's end, Book of Eli has a lot going for it - strong performances. It's apocalypse-pow. An instant classic. A must-see film that keeps you entertained and keeps you thinking. A full-throttle, adrenaline-charged edge of your seat action-packed thriller.

Wow, that was so filled with over-used catch phrases and cliches that the misspelling of the word "propaganda" is the only thing convincing me that this whole review isn't somehow computer-generated.
