Amazon remotely deleted books that users earlier bought and downloaded. (http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2009/07/18/delete-this-book.html)

I was going to buy a kindle this christmas, but this makes me a little wary. It's just the principle of it all.

This isn't Orwellian, it's the free market.

And it sucks.

I think that media companies really want to impose a system on us where we don't actually permanently own what we buy. Rather, it's all kept under licensing agreements that strictly limit what we can do with it -- and can be revoked.

You'd think books would be exempt from this, but the Kindle finds a way to put them into this model.

I hear your wise words but let's not forget that the enemy ships have already dealt a big blow to the bay. Regardless of that, "that's the life for me . . ."

the entertainment industry shoots themselves in the foot at every opportunity in the name of copyright.

the music and now ebook industries have decided that you don't really own products you buy from them.

the movie industry has experimented with 'self destructing' dvds and seems to be moving away from allowing people to actually buy movies.

the NFL will sue you if you dare utter the words "Super Bowl" in public.

it almost seems like they won't be happy until nobody uses their products. that way, nobody can violate their ever-changing copyrights.

CURSE THE DIGITAL AGE!!! :wallbash:
