Haven't seen this many in a long time. Starting maybe a week or so ago they have been flourishing. Kind of nice, they have been missing for the past few years around these parts.

do bats eat lightning bugs? lack of bats equals increased fireflies?
National Geographic had a big article about how lightning bugs were going to die out because of how much light humans produce at night.

I liked it better without the bats. Go back inside before we all regret it.

interesting
i have noticed a huge uptick
in the number of snakes this year
i live in an area where they are
mostly little green or black
garden snakes...quite harmless
i usually come across 1 or 2
each summer
this year, seen about 10 already

Funny you started this thread because last night I watched one fly across the back yard and thought to myself, wow its been a long time since I saw a firefly.
I also haven't seen any bats yet this year but holy crapo there is an epidemic of horseflies and black flies, I have been bitten to pieces.

Whaaa? No way! Last year when we saw one or two we were quite excited. This year they are everywhere blinking away. Maybe it's different across the river but here in the People's Republic of NJ they seem to be much more frequent in the past few weeks than last year.
