Today at work some guy flagged me down and asked me to get him 2-3 gallons of gas. He had run out of gas and was late for an appointment. SCAM, I immediately thought. "Sorry I'm really busy" I told him. So then the guy offered me 50 bucks...
Was it a scam? Should I have done it?

The answer.
I immediately agreed and sped to the nearest gas station that was 2 miles away. I bought a plastic 2 gallon gas tank that cost 15 dollars and 2 gallons of gas for 6. I returned to the guy who was actually still there. Here's where I proceeded with caution. I felt like the guy might jump me from behind. He pullled out the cash and handed me a 50 and a 20. I said" You really don't have to give that much". "Yeah can I give you a 50 and give back the tank?" he replied. "Nah I have no use for the tank" I said. I wanted to drop the gas and get the fuck out of there. I watched him from a distance at one of my other stops put the gas in and drive away. People I told the story to said I was a scumbag for taking the whole 50 profit. Fuck him.

I would have gotten him the gas, but not let him ride along. Just tell him you would be right back. Too bad if he was late, if it was real, he would have been appreciative no matter what way you helped him.

He reached for the money to hand it to me but I drove off without it and just was hoping he would still be there when I got back.

I helped a Woman and her daughter that had their van stuck in the snow. They gave me a fifty. I tried to decline, but the won it over. If my wife hadn't been there I think I could have gotten the number of the daughter too.
"Oh you can keep the $50 if I can have your phone number."
Would that have worked?
