Wow UGA may be worse this year than we previously thought, a team from the SWC puts up 45 on them when we could only score 10?

Its gonna be a looooooooooong year for us.

I don't understand Charlie Weis calling for a pass play on 2nd down when they had the ball and we're running for 6 yards a carry against a weak Michigan defense with 3 minutes left. N.D. had some awful penalties (and a pseudo out of bounds TD taken back) but this loss rests solely on the shoulders of Charlie Weis.

Wow, $30 for those seats? Geez, those would be nosebleed seats in sanford stadium, endzone seats are $52 a piece for SC and almost $200 for seats near the 50 yard line and that is for a game against a shitty south carolina team.

the face value is 40 only cause its the corners. the sideline seats upstairs are more than those seats.

They were only 30 with fees on stubhub

The sad thing is, to this day people still fall for this type player to be the next amazing qb in the nfl. Over and over and over again, they fail in terrible fashion at the next level. So this guy not being able to pull it off at the NCAA level better KILL his value, or lack there of if he continues to insist playing QB. Yeah pryor is worse than even the UGA QB, if OSU had anyone that could throw the ball they would have won that game by 20 last night, USC looks severely over rated.

JimBeam
09-14-2009, 10:31 AM
Parity will never happen as long as the schools are not seen as equal, like it or not some places graduate their players to the NFL at a much more consistent rate than other schools.

Its why georgia tech talks so much shit when they finally beat georgia, they know that most of the best players in the state usually choose UGA over tech and in the past history the SEC usually gets their players in the NFL.

Of course I cant explain why miami is now sucky when they have had a ton of NFL players, I guess it can be linked back to coaching, but those teams all of a sudden playing at a lower level does not mean parity has set in.

Oh and colorado was never a powerhouse, they had a few good years in the late 80s early 90s and people forget that USC sucked for a long time up until carrol got there.

Colorado won a share of a national title ( granted w/ the help of a 5th down ) and was a very dominant program from the late 80s to late 90s ( they went 78-15 between '89 - '96 ).

They are 16th all time w/ 665 wins.

USC is 10th all time on the wins list w/ 766 victories.

They were good for a while, took a turn ( as many programs have, see LSU in the early to mid-90's ) and now Carroll has them back in the running.

Yes but they have been playing since 1890 and they are also in the top 30 for losses, for all those wins they have 1 (tainted) NC, but lets not act like they are a powerhouse, they only won their conference 5 times total most of those in the late 80s-90s. I admitted they had a decent program during that time but they are in no way a power house.

I am also starting to wonder if people are placing bets as to when weiss will get fired, if he keeps losing it will be before the end of the year bowl game or not.

Yes but they have been playing since 1890

What powerhouse, by your definition, hasn't be playing for 100 years ?

There are 67 current D1 teams that have played 1000+ games.

Colorado has 426 losses which makes them 21st best ( 20 other teams have fewer losses ).

7 of the teams ahead of them have played fewer games.

They are 17th of 67 with regards to winning percentage (.606 ).

I think you're letting their recent ineptitude take away from what they've done all time.

Meh. Old news down here. This happened, what, last February? Kiffin accusing Meyer of a recruiting violation, I mean.

Meyer called up a recruit while the kid was on campus visiting Tennessee. While it's not "against the rules", Meyer had to have known where the kid was at the time, and violation or not, it had to seem shitty to a brand new coach in his first year coaching in the SEC.

And as far as making comments after he was hired about vowing to end their losing streak to Florida... what else is Kiffin supposed to tell his employers and boosters? That they should be patient? That he didn't expect to do any better than Phat Phil could do?

Not that I like Kiffin or Tennessee for that matter, but I'm not very fond of the GAYtors either, so I can see this with an impartial opinion.

This game is CBS's first featured SEC game of the year, and I get the feeling their trying to stir up a storyline because this doesn't seem that it will be much of a contest.

Most oddsmakers have the GAYtors favored by four touchdowns.

No even with all those wins name me one big rivalry that they have that the whole country just has to see, they do not have one.

And no I am not letting recent history taint anything, I have followed college ball since our neighbors used to take me to every UGA game with them since they had season tickets, they were never a huge deal in the 80s until the late 80s and then after bill left they dropped back off.

Nobody has ever talked much about CU football or worried about them, that 1990 NC was totally unexpected since during that year they were as low as 20 before jumping back up.

Do they have a long standing program, yes, are they considered a powerhouse, no.

JimBeam
09-16-2009, 10:58 AM
You don't have to have a national following to be considered a powerhouse.

Who nationally had followed LSU prior to winning their half of that title a few years ago ?

But I can guarantee you that in the southeast they were a factor and were in fact a powerhouse despite having several bad and a few mediocre seasons.

Do you think the LSU/Bama rivalry means anything in the midwest or on the west coast ?

No way.

The same way that the USC/Cal game doesn't mean anything to people in Baton Rouge.

But those games mean everything to the people in those regions and not just their immediate fans.

LSU/Auburn is a huge rivalry but nobody outside of the SEC, unless they are a huge fan, would know that.

I never said a national following, what I said was a game that you either have to watch or get the score of to see who won that grudge fest. Trust me a lot more people will tune in around the country for LSU/Bama, USC/CAL, ND/Mich than colorado/anybody. They just are regarded as having a program with rivals that you have to watch, the only time they got any attention was the late 80s like I said, nobody before or since the early 90s has given a shit about them.

I guess Rutgers is a super powerhouse, being they invented college football.

Thats a good point, using his same logic then rutgers is a powerhouse which up until a few years ago was complete shit, their teams have been pretty bad for a while. Now they at least have recognition but they still have to play quite a few more years to get powerhouse status.

The new Yankee Stadium could soon add an annual college football event, rekindling some of the roots of the old Stadium, as the Big East and Big 12 move closer to a deal to bring a bowl game to the Stadium in 2010.

According to some things on espn.com, it seems like a done deal for the bowl and now the conferences are just working out the details.

Sounds pretty sweet

Yes it is, if you had money on the right side.

Seriously, the Washington pick was a no-brainer, especially early in the week when the line was +22.5. You should've taken the hint when the line dropped to, I believe it was 18 at kickoff.

BYU, too, was overrated after the OU win and Florida State was underrated after the Miami loss. Their true talent level is no match. FSU is much better than BYU and that line was shocking to me. I had FSU straight up and was laughing all the way to the bank.

I did get the Washington pick right but as for BYU- yes, Florida State is a more talented team but has not been playing very well (Jacksonville St.- I don't care if Perilloux is there). and BYU had a lot to play for. Being as they are all 26 year old married men, I thought they would realize what this game meant and handle it well, especially at home.

This West Virginia game started awesomely, now it's just a vortex of suck. WVU was up by two TD's five minutes in, now it's a tie game.

I blame GameHHH's sister.

By the time I was able to sneak away from the wedding reception, AU was already down 14 - 0, and they did a piss poor job of showing clips of how the hell that happened.

I hate it for the fans, but I was thankful for the weather delay. I was able to see more of the game.

Just got back in town, and hoping I have it all on DVR... although all I really need to see is the first part of the first quarter. I was able to catch most of the rest.

After last year, I was worried as hell about facing Devine again. I'm assuming he was the reason for the fast start.

And, yeah, must have been a tough loss for WVU fans after having the early lead.

I was appalled at our tackling in the first half, and disappointed that it took so long to get any sort of run game going.

Sloppy game, but I was happy with the end result, and really pleased that this team didn't quit. Lot of young kids and a new coaching staff, but they're starting to get it together.

We've now trailed in every game, but have shown some great adjustments on both sides of the ball, especially in this one. 31 points after the first quarter, and held WVU to 9.

I just wish their pre-game prep was as good.

A warning to the Big East... the Mountaineers are a pretty damn good football team.

So it seems Meyer and Kiffin are still jawjacking after the game.

I guess Meyer claimed that UF didn't work Tenn that bad because some of his players had the flu and that tenn was trying so they went conservative.

Kiffin came back w/ some reply about how if ( if ??? really ?? ) they lose a game or don't play as well that maybe they'll blame the flu.

That's paraphrasing but pretty much what he said.

Kiffin is a moron.

Sure UF didn't work them like everybody in the world thought they would but they still won the game.

Is Kiffin taking his team's loss as a moral victory ?

Does he realize that he lost a conference/division game ?

Are his hopes for the year to just not lose by a lot ?

He's such a loser.

Pretty much everyone I've read is. They thought (as did I) that the Vols were in for a whippin' of Titanic proportions. Unfortunately for the Gators, even though they won, they're a victim of their own successes.

Hell....i've seen a couple of writers for the AP that ranked Florida fifth on their ballots (one guy even had them behind fucking HOUSTON at 3)

JimBeam

Yeah but I think coming into the season the No Doubt was UF's defense w/ I think all 11 returning starters.

They held up ther end of the bargain.

Surely the offense was gonna take a step back because they lost their #1 playmaker other than Tebow.

I think they said he carried more times in that game on Saturday than he had in a long time.

That might've gone w/ the conservative gameplan though.

But there's no reason that they should be ranked behind a Houston team.

While teams shouldn't really be rewarded for what they've done in prior years anbody that thinks that Houston at the end of the season is better than UF, regardless of their record, is insane.

The defense played better than I would have thought and if TN had a QB worth a shit, they might have had a chance to win the Fla game and would have won the UCLA hands down.

UF is also breaking in a new offense, and a bunch of their top skill guys (like Jeff Demps) have/had the Flu.

As far as the writers go, Pat Forde thinks Miami is the best team in the country, which just makes me sigh and want to put my head in my hands.

To play Devils Advocate for Taylor, who's he really got to throw to? And their best RB is out for the year.

Its an enigma to me how they can get so many great athletes on defense from the Hampton area, but they've never had a great receiver.

Hell yeah! UA defense will stop them. I hope Bama and UF run it all the way to the SEC Championship. That would be a helluva game,

No, bama would just get rolled like they did last year, they have no competition in the west and it doesnt look like they will any time soon either.

The SEC East is Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.

This might be me being a homer, but I think Kentucky has as good a chance of knocking off one of the Florida/Georgia/Tennessee trio this year as they ever have.
Maybe Tennessee, thats it. Even though georgias defense is shit their offense does look better than last year after a rough start, florida will roll kentucky although I will pray for them to win since I hate florida.

I think people really need to sit down and carefully consider whether or not they really should be so sure "The U' is back.
I think they are starting to come back, it seems their coach is starting to instill discipline in the players, which is why a lot of the thuggish players are leaving.

Wow I forgot Miami gets Oklahoma next week.
That will be a decent test although I think OU is down a bit this year too.

LSwho is struggling in Starkville. Bad weather and sloppy play on both sides so far, but MSU converted a turnover into another score.

If they lose, it will look like a devastating loss... but this MSU team is playing a lot better than they did last year.

Auburn hung 49 on them, but they bounced back by taking care of Vandy, and are much improved on offense.

If they can stay healthy, they may shock some people.

I'm hoping Arkansas will challenge Bama this afternoon. I still am not handing the SEC West to them based on what they've done to date.

But I love how Bama and the media are already booking their trip to Atlanta. I'm not saying they won't go, but I'd be surprised if they go there undefeated.

I think the team that gets the best overall QB play in the West will win it, and I haven't seen McElroy have to win a game with his arm yet. Sooner or later, someone will gameplan to shut down Bama's run and make McElroy beat them.

Snead had an awful game Thursday night, but they lost to this same USC team last year and ended their year with a string of wins. Nutt will have this team ready to play next week.

Ryan Mallett is playing well and Arkansas is another team to watch, and it seems that the only thing LSU is lacking is consistent play from Jefferson.

I'm trying to contain my expectations for Auburn because Chris Todd is still not making all the throws we need from him, but he looks better in this system and appears to be healthy. West Virginia showed last week that teams will be able to stop the run if they choose to, and force them to spread the field and take some shots downfield.

I'm hoping that they can get a comfortable lead tonight and get Caudle some reps. If Todd struggles or gets hurt, the easy thing to do would be to go back to Kodi Burns, but I'd rather see them leave him in the slot and in wildcat formations and go with a pure passer like Caudle.

Unfortunately, our depth is for shit. We're a few key injuries away from a bad year, and we'll struggle in full four quarter shootouts, and our schedule gets murderous starting in Knoxville next week.

Good thing is that we're getting a lot of freshmen playing time, and next year's recruiting class is already looking good. I'm very impressed with this coaching staff so far.

After posting that picture I checked out the Duck Blogs and found this little gem.

Oregon coach Chip Kelly will address the status of suspended running back LeGarrette Blount with media following the Ducks’ walk-through Friday, UO officials said. It is believed that Kelly will introduce the possibility that Blount could play again this season.

Blount was suspended on Sept. 4, a day after his post-game tirade following Oregon’s season-opening loss to Boise State. He punched a Broncos player who confronted him, struck a teammate who attempted to calm him down and nearly scuffled with fans before being dragged off the field by coaches and security personnel.

Since then, Blount has practiced intermittently with the Ducks as a scout-team player, missing some workouts for appointments that are believed to include some form of on-campus counseling. He contacted representatives from Boise State in the days after the game to apologize. Earlier today, a letter submitted in his name was published by Oregon’s campus news outlet, the Daily Emerald, in which Blount apologized to the campus community for the outburst.

School officials also have connected Blount with mentors, including former NBA player Kermit Washington, who was suspended from that league for punching an opposing player.

Kelly has generally declined to discuss the terms of Blount’s suspension since it was announced, and Blount has not been made available for interviews. Oregon’s walk-through Friday is scheduled to conclude around 11 a.m.

Who ever thought oregon would give us the most unstable player in the country? I would have guessed miami or almost any school in florida over oregon or maybe USC since those players are pretty dirty in their kickbacks, just ask reggie bush.

If he plays again this year it will only be to salvage chips job, hes a bitch that doesnt deserve to play again this year, let him learn there are repercussions to his actions and if he busts his ass he may get to try to go pro. With his talent he can do it, but would he grow up enough to be able to reach that goal?

If WVU learns to hang onto the ball this year, they'll be a contender in the Big East. If not for the six turnovers against AU, they likely could be undefeated and in everyone's top 25.

I was looking at their remaining schedule last night. (What's with all the Friday night Big East games this year?!?)

They've got to go to South Florida on 10/30 (Friday Night), and to Cincinatti two weeks later (another Friday night game).... and have Pitt at home two weeks after that (yet another Friday night game).

Not a great week across the board, but some good match-ups down here in the south.

My schedule for the day:

Alabama at Kentucky 11:21 a.m. SEC Network

LSU at Georgia 2:30 p.m. CBS (HD)

Auburn at Tennessee 6:45 p.m. ESPN (HD)

Sucks that there's so many other good games this evening. I'll probably be DVR'ing the Auburn game, and pausing from time to time to check in on the others:

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (Arlington) 6:30 p.m. ESPN2 (HD)

Georgia Tech at Mississippi State 6:30 p.m. CSS

Oklahoma at Miami 7:00 p.m. ABC
- or -
USC at California 7:00 p.m. ABC

I'm assuming we'll get the Miami game down here.

And in case you missed me posting this the last few years, THIS is THE BEST site for the latest, greatest, updated College Football TV Schedule I've found. If it's being televised, you'll find the time and channel posted here. (http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm)
