Unidentified Biological "Goo," 15 Miles Long, Creeps Down Alaskan Coast. (http://www.adn.com/2835/story/864687.html)
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/07/504x_arcticgoo.jpg
Coast Guard officer Terry Hasenauer said:
It's certainly biological. It's definitely not an oil product of any kind. It has no characteristics of an oil, or a hazardous substance, for that matter. It's definitely, by the smell and the makeup of it, it's some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism. in recent history I don't think we've seen anything like this. Maybe inside lakes or in stagnant water or something, but not (in the ocean) that we could recall ... If it was something we'd seen before, we'd be able to say something about it. But we haven't. [The stuff is] gooey [and dark]. It's pitch black when it hits ice and it kind of discolors the ice and hangs off of it. It kind of has an odor; I can't describe it.
Fuck. That. I saw Creepshow 2. Don't even go near the shore!
"From the air it looks brownish with some sheen, but when you get close and put it up on the ice and in the bucket, it's kind of blackish stuff ... (and) has hairy strands on it."
Hasenauer said the Coast Guard's samples are being analyzed in Anchorage. Results may be back sometime next week, he said.

Black goop afloat off Arctic coast identified as algae (http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/867160.html)
"We got the results back from the lab today," said Ed Meggert of the Department of Environmental Conservation in Fairbanks. "It was marine algae."
The goo fast became an Alaska mystery. And the new findings still leave questions unanswered: Why is there so much of it in a region where people say they've never seen anything quite like it?
Local hunters and whalers didn't know what to make of it. The Coast Guard labeled the substance biological, but knew little else. The stuff had hairy strands in it and was tangled with jellyfish, said a borough official.
We should send it to attack the giant jellyfish. Destroy all monsters!

Bizarre Gelatinous Fish Found in Brazil (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/09/090922-bizarre-gelatinous-fish-brazil.html)
http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/bigphotos/images/090922-bizarre-gelatinous-fish-brazil_big.jpg
Researchers have found a bizarre fish floating off the coast of Brazil: a creature six feet in length with no scales, little muscle mass, and a largely gelatinous body.
Initial accounts quoted the scientists calling the creature "completely new, scientifically speaking."
But fish experts looking at video footage of the bizarre fish have identified it as a member of Ateleopodidae, a little-understood group of deep-sea fish known to science since the 1840s.

As sea temperatures have risen in recent decades, enormous sheets of a mucus-like material have begun forming more often, oozing into new regions, and lasting longer, a new Mediterranean Sea study says.
And the blobs may be more than just unpleasant.

Giant Stingray! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8347000/8347644.stm)
It is one of the rarest giants of the ocean, and it has been caught on film for the first time.
An underwater camera crew filming for the BBC recorded a smalleye stingray swimming off the coast of Mozambique.
The smalleye stingray is the largest of all 70 species of stingray, attaining widths of more than 2m.
The elusive creature, first discovered in 1908, has only ever been seen alive off the coast of Tofo in southern Mozambique.

Alaska's Loch Ness Monster Is Latest Alleged Sea Serpent Sighting (VIDEO) (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/20/alaska-loch-ness-monster_n_904658.html#s272963&title=BowNessie)
It has a horse-like head at the end of a long neck, with big eyes and humps on its back. It undulates above the surface for just a moment before diving back underwater -- leaving even the most seasoned sailors scratching their heads.
It sounds like any of the thousands of sea serpent stories, from Scotland's Loch Ness Monster to Lake Champlain's Champ. But this time there's video.
A remarkable piece of footage purportedly shot by a fisherman in Bristol Bay shows what many people believe is Alaska's version of the Loch Ness Monster, reports Discovery News.

Remembering The Blob of Little Egg Harbor
In the summer of 2003 an icky, smelly mystery blob appeared in the waters of Little Egg Harbor. The Blob, (the size equivalent to a Honda Civic) smelled like a combination of rotten eggs and decomposing flesh. The State Police’s marine unit called in the DEP who poked and probed The Blob and determined that it was not hazardous, though they could not say for sure just what it was. The gooey mass was eventually towed out into the Great Bay using a 50-rope and then released. The Blob might just be the most disgusting and frightening thing you’d ever encounter at the Jersey Shore, with the possible exception of some cast members of the TV show of the same name. The Blog may still be at large, so––BEWARE
