Polly's Pancake Parlor (http://www.pollyspancakeparlor.com/index.html) in Sugerhill, NH is situated in a valley within the White Mountains. I believe it's right around the Presidential Range.

It's a real place...I've been there on more then one occasion. And when Mr Sleeves says that he wants to die there......it's because it's most likely set in one of the most beautiful spots in the world.

The pancakes are unmatched when it comes to Polly's. From buckwheat to blueberry to pumpkin with fresh ground nutmeg. They are made to order by your waitress and are served with extremely fresh local NH Maple Syrup.

The only real problem with Polly's is this......

They are only open during the Summer and Fall Seasons. They fall is the best time to visit. That's when all the tree's around that area look like huge bowls of Fruitloop cereal.

Thanks for the memories Sleeves.
You make me proud to be a New Hampshirite.

I hiked the southern presidentials last memorial day, probably the most beautiful place I've ever been.

If Ron could have a pancake named after him, this would be the place. It's the Molly's Cupcakes of pancakes.

We go up to the see the lupines every summer...you can smell the pancakey syrupyness pouring down the hill. So good.

I don't like pancakes. Something about the texture. Blech.

What a fucking weirdo.

Seriously.

And how does Polly's compare to the Blue Benn Diner in Bennington, Vt?

I'll hang up and listen to your responses.

Thanks.

You're from NH, Chuck?

I rediscovered NH this year. I'm loving it. I used to vacation up there as a kid, but totally forgot how great it was.

I am from there Underdog. I was born and raised in Bristol. A really small town about 20 miles from Lake Winnipesaukee and Laconia.

My friends and I were really big into hiking.

Next time you head up there check out the Waterville Valley area. There are some small day hikes and also a great little ski area.

On the way up the only road to Waterville Valley make sure you stop by the William Tell Restaurant. I pulled a Stage there under Chef Wolfgang. Brilliant little Germany/European place nestled next to the river.

Where have you been hanging out in NH?

hahah

I used to vacation in Bristol on Newfound Lake when I was a kid. Every summer.

When you get off 93 to head towards Waterville Valley, there's a bar/restaurant on the left at the only set of lights that had the best pancakes I've ever eaten (its in Campton or Thornton, I believe). I was so surprised when we got them that we went back there again, and they were even better.

Spent a weekend in Bethlehem then spent last weekend in Laconia, hanging on a boat on the lake, followed by a nice cookout in Goffstown. My chick is from Manchester (her grandparents used to own a campground in Alton) and her family came out to take some of family stuff early Saturday morning, and we just hung for the rest of the weekend. I think we're going to be making it a yearly thing, which is awesome.

My family has been going to Lake Winnipesaukee for about 60 years now. Alton Bay is the only place I would EVER consider "home" that wasn't NY.

Heaven on earth I tells ya.

If anyone ever needs a nice inn to stay at, good friends of mine own a great one I can recommend highly.... right on the lake.

Blue Benn Diner (http://www.bennington.com/chamber/walking/bluebenn.html) = Great

Polly's Pancake Parlor (http://www.pollyspancakeparlor.com/) = Better

Grey Fox Inn/Dutch Pancake House (http://www.stowe-village.com/greyfoxinn.html) = Best!

PS Also worth a trip for breakfast alone: Sugar & Spice (http://www.vtsugarandspice.com/) Rt. 4 between Rutland and Killington VT

For NYers I'll also throw in Clinton St Bakery for one of the top 5 pancake breakfasts ever.

My mother's side of the family all hail from Rutland. I've travled Route $ a bunch of times. It's a wonderful ride through the Green Mountains.

I miss New England sometimes. I just don't miss the ugliness that tons of snow can bring.

I am not traveling to Japan to try their fish head pancakes no matter how appealing you make them sound.

The place itself is really cool - very small (probably 25 tables max) and rustic inside and out. Everyone was really friendly, the waitresses cook your pancakes in the middle of the room and they deliver them to you in two rounds. The pancakes were very good - definitely the best ones I've had in the US...they offer real maple syrup, maple sugar, maple butter, maple pepper (seriously.)

The area (Franconia Notch) is amazing - no matter how many times I drive through there I'm always wowed by the mountains.

I was expecting more, but they kind of did OK by themselves. And yes, I felt like an ass taking a picture of a plate of food in public.

That bacon looks wonderful, too! I'm glad I checked out this thread.

I just got back recently from my annual trip to Lake Winnipesaukee. It used to be a summer vacation spot but when my step dad retired they actually moved up there year round; to Meredith, NH. I will make this trip next time it's open as I guess it won't be open at Christmas.

It may not be anything special to look at, but they're amazing to taste. Some people like to be blown away by something unique or creative-- this is not that kind of place. Pollys is where you go if you want basic pancakes, but made incredibly well.

Man, that looks good.

There are a couple of places in CT known for pancakes that I need to try the next time I go up there.
