View Full Version : Were vests ever cool?

I was going through some old clothes, donating stuff that isn't shit but that I don't want, and I found an old wool vest I've held onto for years. I was always convinced it would be "cool" one day or I'd have an outfit I could fit it into.
Judgment fail.
So were vests ever cool? I submit, no.

As part of a certain style of suits, yes, always and forever.
On their own?
Not unless you're Han Solo.

Dude, I am literally laughing out loud over here. I had the fucking vest on as I typed the thread, got up and took it off. At that moment I realized, IT'S REVERSIBLE!
What a piece of shit!

it's one and the same... it's reversible!
And Moe, your first problem is the sweater underneath you are pairing it with (REALLY a SWEATER in JULY?????) ... then go with something more up to date.

It's the same reversible vest and it's hideous. No idea why I held onto it. I must have had it in my closet for at least 10 years, no lie. It's going away today.
My 1st mistake was thinking anything with the term "reversible" attached to it was worth a shit.

Yea, the sweater was just the thing I tried on before it. The sweater stays, the vest fucking goes.
Also, I'm not surprised it's out of date. It literally is over 10 years old. So I should have worn this thing to a bitchin' Bare Naked Ladies concert and used it's pussy attracting powers while they were fresh.
Now it's a shop rag or Salvation Army donation at best.

just stay away from a straight cut... if you want a new vest go with something tailored but make sure it fits right! Nothing worse than a vest that's too tight or way too wide

2 things:
1. I feel like a giddy fat man over here because I got back down to my original large waist size, so I don't have to throw out like 10 pairs of pants and 5 shirts! I won't list my "good" waist size or the one I was forced to move up to because then it won't seem as cool.
2. I've turned into that dip shit that still has unused clothes with new tags on them in his closet. Some of these things were bought or given to me well over 5 years ago.

^^^^THIS.
I feel that too big is almost worse. It's not 1992. Fitted and tailored goes a long way. Same goes for shirts. If you wear a button down shirt that looks like it's your Dad's when you were 8 years old, it's a terrible look. Buy clothes that fit and it goes a long way.
I'm looking at you Gvac.

OH yea I agree. That vest was bought for me, not by me. When I go out to buy my own clothes, I will almost always use the fitting room. Hey, it may take longer and not be "manly" but if I'm wasting money on this shit it's going to fit right and look good.

It would take way more than circulating water to make you look cool in that vest.
On a side note:If you are wearing a black leather vest and are not in a certified 1%er motorcycle club you might as well have "Pole Smokers ......Chapter" emblazoned on the back. And yes I'm looking at you ,you rubbie biker wannabes.

This board is so collectively fat/old/dorky that the opposite of any general fashion consensus is probably the safe way to go.
Thusly with so many fat old dorks clearly being pro-vest here, anti-vest is the sound decision.
