I'm on the opposite side of Florida from the Space Center and I can hear the sonic booms when they launch. I'm also able to see the Shuttle in the sky seconds after it has lifted off.

I'm still intrigued by the science of the whole thing. Blast off, hang around in orbit for a week, de-orbit and start bleeding of 17,000 mph of kinetic energy from 7 days ago, and if all that goes right nail a one time shot at a dead stick landing.
For 70's technology it's still impressive what it does.
My fav launch video. No announcers, just the breathing shuttle and liftoff

Amazing that the technology from the sixties is still awesome and I heard that the Saturn V could be made to work again, as it was very reliable and efficient and very powerful.
I remember seeing one of these launches as a kid and seeing that "USA" pass the camera gave me quite a feeling of pride. Still does. Amazing to think that we went to the Moon in 1969 and really have not returned or visited any other world/moon (in person) since then.

For some reason, some people (myself included) can't post thread titles in all caps. You enter it as caps, but it posts with only first letter in caps.
