Post your stories! I think a lot of people have had to resort to something like this to "ge them by" until a replacement arrives.

So, the other day my aircard was acting up. USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't

I had one of the first USB aircards from Sprint. The 595U

I quickly ordered a new one for 0.00 buy resigning a new 2yr. The delemia was not having internet on the go for an entire 4 days.

I narrowed it down to the USB plug was broken because if I applied pressure to it, the device would work.

I cracked it open with the mindframe of "it's already broke, no harm in trying to fix it".

I ended up cutting a usb cord I had and trying to splice and solder it to the internals of my aircard. An hour, and about 300 MOTHERFUCKERS later.. I hit paydirt!

Ghetto! but it has gotten me by for 4 days and I get my new one today!

My former roommate's cat chewed up the USB cord to my very nice Saitek gaming keyboard rendering it crap. I too had to do some cutting and splicing to put a new cord in.

My server case has several things gerryrigged such as an additional cooling fan where I cut a hole in the side cover, smoothed the edges, glues window screen over the opening, and installed a 120mm fan to draw heat away from both processors.

In the same case there is a rectangular hole between the ps area and the main compartment that I installed a 70mm fan to draw air up from the main area to be expelled by the PS.

I have a ton of these stories.

Our newish washer wouldn't work so I narrowed it down to the shutoff switch that turns the motor off if you open the lid during a cycle. I just wired straight across the switch; now we can open it during a cycle and watch the thing spin like crazy.

any musician should be able to STEP UP this thread.

i once wired one of my car amps (the 300 watt one) to my speaker cab to finish up a show. it was by chance that on this day, my guitar player at the time just happened to have an AC to DC converter in his truck.

When I was younger I salvaged a popped string by the headstock of my Fender Strat with a washer and some wire ties..I had no spare set of strings obviously
