Help Wanted
My Office manager who worked for me for 17 years decided in February that she needed a change of career and would be leaving in mid May.
I interviewed and hired what I hoped would be her replacement. Unforetunately after training her for three months she was offered a job that I couldn't match even though I tried. She gave two weeks notice. So iwas left to hire and train her replacement. I am a good Orthodontist but do not have my finger on the pulse of every detail of my practice management systems as this was a well oiled machine that I did not need to be.
Our local paper is now a regional conglomerate so my classified ad ends up across ALL of Fairfield County. There were perhaps 200 resumes and as many calls. From which I interviewed 20 ladies. Finally settling on what I hoped would be my next and final Office Manager. She interviewed well seemed eager and looked like a good fit.
She was hired and I have been training her for the last month. She told me up front that she needed yesterday off for her daughter to take her drivers test but she would be in in the afternoon. She never came in abd could not be reached anywhere.
Fast forward to this morning there is a message apologizing but due to "personal issues" she was going to have to quit. I still can't get a hold of her.
So now I have to revisit interviewing and hiring and training AGAIN. A bunch of stuff is piling up that requires a trained manager to do. I assume many of the people I interviewed may still be looking but they must know if its been a month that something is off. This really sucks!

Sounds like you need a MAN to do this job
You are in luck. I have no experience and require a six-figure salary. Just waiting for the offer.

sounds like you know how to do all that stuff, hire yourself
150K a year and a company car and I'm YOURS!
Seriously though, I know how frustrating it is. I can't tell you how many guys I've trained and thought would be a perfect fit only to find out they're unreliable, alcoholics, drug addicts, etc. and wind up either quitting or getting fired.
It's incomprehensible to me, especially in this economy, how many people are just not willing to show up for work 5 days a week.
Good luck, Doc.

Company car (Long-ass commute)
Medical
Keys to the beach house.
No training required. The occasional "late night" at the office comes with the territory.

You know, if you hire illegal immigrants you don't have to worry about all this nonsense, like "two weeks notice", and "benefits", and "good days pay for a good days work".
Think outside the box.

What are you paying? Don't have to answer, but I'm an assistant and curious. You'll get a lower grade of assistant with a lower grade of pay. Ballparking by what you've described, you should be paying at least $50k.

One more thing, have you tried going through an agency and getting a temp-perm deal going? They could at least find you someone who has a reliable track record.

actually it is not, last time i was an office manager was in 2001/2002.
I do IT, mainly SharePoint Administration... and I doubt he could pay enough to make up for the long commute... cause I would need a daycare near his area which runs about 250 a week if not more.
I have done hr for a while and did some hiring, it is unbelievable what slips through when you interview... as much as this sucks for you cause you have to retrain them over and over but in the end it's like a probation period where you find out whether they are a good fit for you or not.

This is my situation exactly! I've been doing this for a year and a half! I need a college kid with bills to pay, at least I know he/she would need the job and the money.

I'm assuming you don't live in New Jersey, but if you did, I'd be there.
I have management experience, and I'm a young, sassy broad.
This sounds like a bad ad from the back of the Village Voice...

to reiterate what Missy said... what ballpark salary are you paying?
if you are paying less than 40k then you can not realistically expect quality service ... unless you are willing to hire right out of college. most of us Executive Assistants require above 40k, (sometimes way above, depending on the position and experience), good benefits and a decent work environment.
oh... and if you can pay above 42k i am for hire with stellar references.
with a reasonable re-location package of course.... :D

The commute would be a real bitch but I am in need of a job and have a ton of medical experience. I also like to grope 18 year old girls.
