Buddays -

I am in the final stages of closing on a house in South Minneapolis for next month (my first home!). The living room is set up with a fireplace in the middle of the north wall, and outlets are already present above the fireplace for a wall mounted television (so I will have to mount my 42 inch LCD there).

Of course I am going crazy with ideas, but one that I need help with how organize accessories (PS3, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, DVR/Cable Box, Surround System, etc) in this setup. Is there some sort of awesome equipment shelf that is catered to this type of need?

If you have done this, please show pics!

Thanks!

Very similiar to this setup, but no doors on the sides, just walls.

they use in wall junction boxes now that help connect shit that's run to tv mounted to the wall.
if i can make a recommondation, use them. also, some folk use pvc pipe as conduit when running the wires between the boxes in the wall. this makes it easy to snake new cables up to the tv when adding/changing equipment.

measure twice, cut once.

I use something like this. (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8537577&type=product&id=1188558601883) Since it is a tower it helps to hide some of the cable mass. I would also use a HDMI switch and/or media switch so you only have one or 2 cables running to the tv.

This shit (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9058789&type=product&id=1218013803059) is paintable and easy to hide. This is how I hide the cables.

I paid to have this done in my house (although not above a fireplace). Essentially, all wiring goes into the wall behind the tv, down in the basement and then over and up to a closet on the same floor.

My brother had the same thing done in Edina. If you would like the name of the place he used, let me know.

My can't pay someone to do it. I would be so ashamed in myself.

Some good ideas though from everyone, now the key is finding a good HDMI switch that doesn't cost a bundle!

Just get a good receiver. Feed everything into there, then you only need the one HDMI cord coming out of the receiver to the television.

Also, if you're hiding everything, get a bluray remote. No line of sight remotes rule.

QFT!!! get a newer (+better quality) reciever. the one i bought last year has 4 HDMI in 1 out.

Thank you! For a while there, I thought I needed to get new glasses to put over my glasses.

Oh, yeah - the studs over the fireplace are likely not where you think they should be, and possibly not as big as you'd expect.

That's simple tp fix to with 2x4 cross mounted braces painted black to match the hardware.

Why do you need 2 tvs on top of each other?

Dunno but when I read the title, I had images of a 26 inch color tv in 1979 sitting on top of a 1972 console tv.

Or am I dating myself with that comment?

So if my solution involved fishing line, you might say that it was unsafe? It looks pretty sturdy from h
