OK, I usually don't get skeeved out by many things but this.... this is.... skeevy creepy.

We've been tipped off by an anonymous source about how the city of Raleigh, North Carolina, is responding as the viral video of a seething blob in the city sewers made its way across the internet yesterday. Marti Gibson is the Environmental/EMS Coordinator for Public Utilities in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina, and she has been as confused as the rest of us. When she first looked at the video, she emailed our anonymous source to say it was a slime mold that was in the phase of its lifecycle where it looks like a throbbing, breathing animal

Here's the video:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SQmFWYWqTZA&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SQmFWYWqTZA&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Public Utilities Group Confirms "Sewer Monster" Is Real, But Don't Know What It Is (http://io9.com/5305706/public-utilities-group-confirms-sewer-monster-is-real-but-dont-know-what-it-is)

Ok, there is a scientific explanation... for now.... but still.... creepier than a clown rambling on about balloons.

It's a clump of worms. Because they don't have dirt they are grouped together. When one contracts all of them react and contract, making it look as if it is a single disgusting being.

Gvac's nutts are a lot more moist. He needs lessons from Rhino on powdering.

I find it very odd that the stuff seems to move only when the camera focus's on it. I suspect that whatever is driving the camera down the length of the pipe is air driven and that the camera has the capability to blow air out onto whatever it is focusing on, so that it would be visible in the event there was grud all over the lens. That air is making this stuff seem like it is pulsing and contracting. Again, remember that it was only whatever the camera looked at that pulsed like that.

I find it odd that there would be pneumatic camera bots roaming the sewers of Raleigh.

You know, if some of you just read the article you would have learned what it was instead of guessing. Hmmm.

I haven't yet found a picture of tubifex in such a sheath or membrane as we see in this video.

Even pics of Bryozoans don't look like the vid, and those are calcified. This looks pretty pliable.

EDIT: However, it does fit the description (http://www.villageoffruitport.com/bryozoan.htm).
