LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Veteran actor Karl Malden, who won an Academy Award for his role in "A Streetcar Named Desire," has died at age 97, his manager said Wednesday.
Karl Malden died in his sleep at his Los Angeles home, his manager says.
Malden died in his sleep about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, said his manager, Bud Ross.
Malden appeared alongside Marlon Brando in two of director Elia Kazan's classic films of the 1950s -- "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On the Waterfront." He won the best supporting actor Oscar for "Streetcar" in 1952 and was nominated for his role as a priest crusading against crooked union bosses in "On the Waterfront."
Sigh. Farewell Officer Stone. Carradine, Jackson, Fawcett, McMahon, Malden. What a month...

His film career took off in 1951 with his reprisal of Mitch, the sad-eyed suitor of Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) opposite Marlon Brando in Kazan's film version of "A Streetcar Named Desire." His vulnerable portrayal won him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and assured him a place as one of Hollywood's most dependable character actors.
oh and I forgot.
Birdman of Alcatraz, How the West was won, Baby Doll, The Cincinnati Kid with Steve McQueen.

97.....I had no idea.
And I thought Earnest Borgnine was old.
RIP, Detective Stone.
Another guy I thought died years ago, but usually showed up in some top notch films.
He blew as Herb Brooks in "Miracle On Ice," though.

And yet Magic Johnson is still alive after all these years...
As impressive as his career was, I was always amazed that he was married for 70 years.
RIP.
