A company recently bought Pirate Bay and wants to make it legal. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/30/pirate_bay_next_stop/)

That is unfortunate, but I've moved on from them already.

Can't blame the owners for selling. If someone is willing to shell out big bucks for a site that basically does nothing, more power to 'em.

Its a sad day for some of us though.
Another article. (http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090630-713028.html)
GGF intends to launch new business models that allow compensation to the content providers and copyright owners," the company said.

Really is a bummer. Pirate bay is always the first place I check. Top 100 ftw!

Invite only private trackers > Public Trackers like Pirate Bay, Mininova etc
Check this site out it tells you when some private trackers are open for registration. (http://trackerchecker.org/)

Of course, and that's why my post was getting at.
But let's be honest, Pirate Bay was the top public torrent tracker site out there or at least the most well known. And that was it's downfall really, just as Napster wasn't the only MP3 P2P site back during the trial but it was the most well known.
Draw a target on yourself and someone will shoot.
I used PB when my member torrent site failed me but luckily that doesn't happen very often.

Any of those you'd recommend over others? That's a long fucking list and I know most of them have to suck a big caulk.

The biggest thing that'll be missed is that while the private torrent sites are great, most of them simply do not have the sheer amount of content or long term seeding that a public site like TPB does/did.

I echo this, Napster is constantly loosing money and artists.

The one thing I liked about Pirate Bay is that if Demonoid, etc did not have it Pirate Bay did.
I mostly use Demonoid thanks to it's private trackers, do you have invites any where else?

Demonoid relies heavily on Pirate Bay's Trackers so does minivoa and most other big public sites.

Unless you see a site you recognize by name (TorrentBully comes to mind) just look at the sites that have green dots that means they are open for registration. Sometimes some of the good sites have limited openings. I would bookmark that and check it here and there since it's updated every time a tracker opens the doors. Otherwise it's a hit or miss.

You need to get on the right private trackers :king:

I use Demonoid as well. I jumped on an open registration one night. They have VERY well seeded torrents and I only went to Pirate Bay 2 or 3 times since I became a registered Demonoid member.

In whatever torrent client you use look at the tracker addresses most of the demonoid torrents use Piratebays tracker.

I am also a member at bitsoup, tv.torrent, and an old favorite; mininova. I want an invite to a couple other sites like torrentleach and revolutiontt.

I just started using torrents yesterday, and am totally in the dark.....
what's this about invites vs public registration?
Does anyone know whether these files will play on Mac, or do i need to dl codecs or whatever?
Thanks.
