is this gonna be a produced event, like all of the woodstocks have been...

or, even cooler...

is this just a bunch of fans showing up, plus bands who want to be there for the anniversary stop by, no big setups, just guitars and a few big amps.

If not you could always just buy a ticket to the WVU v. Pitt game.

Plenty of rape and bonfires.

I hope so!

I was at '99 (yes the one with the fires....ooooooh!) and it was a FKN BLAST!

I mean, i was 10 years younger, and music was much better then (which isnt sayin much), but it was 3 days that i'll never forget.

Fans cannot possibly know where or when to "just show up" unless someone produces that information.

There is an event being held on the anniversary, but it's not an attempt to recreate Woodstock. Some of the acts that are still around from the original show (Richie Havens, etc.) are performing to commemorate the date, but it's a low key event for a couple thousand old hippies.

I was at '94 (the non-rape non-fire one) and it was awesome, I was only 15 and super impressed by Joe Cocker. If I went to one now, I'm sure I'd want to murder all the shitty kids that would show up.

I'd love a "Missy reports from Woodstock '09" for the what show! I'm sure it wouldn't be biting or sarcastic in any way.

It looks awful. Jefferson Starship will be there. I just Richie Havens last week, and he does put on a great show, but altogether it is not gonna be worth the money.

I was there in '99 and had the greatest time of my life. Did some looting, lit some stuff on fire, and had my first rape. Nothing I could do about it, he was much stronger than the 16 year old me.

This explains so much

I went in 1994. It was awesome. Despite my angry teenage picture below I had a blast. Saw my first real life boobs that weekend too.....no clue why I dont have pics of those. Depending on the lineup and location, Id go again.

We had to traverse this hill to get from our tents to the second stage...by the end of the weekend it was damn near impossible with all the mud.

1969 was a magical year - we landed on the moon, the Mets won the World Series, and Woodstock happened.

I wish we kept it special and only let those things happen once.

Like Limp Bizkit didn't taint it 10 years ago?

I say let it die. Keep it a legend with some dignity.

I hope this one ends like Altamont.

Nothing that involves thousands of dirty hippes ever had any dignity.

Except for the Civil Rights and Anti-war Movements.

Please don't insult the Civil Rights movement that way.

Look how well dressed and clean everyone is. All the hippies were too busy sleeping past noon and bathing in their bongwater.

Too many corporations nowadays to do it. Woodstock actually made no money when it was done. It's was probably one of the biggest "Free concerts" that ever was.

Today there is no such thing as a big free concert.

Incidentally my boss just wrote a book about woodstock you guys should all pick up it's called "Back To The Garden". It's quite the read.

I mean, i was 10 years younger, and music was much better then (which isnt sayin much), but it was 3 days that i'll never forget.

man, i couldn't disagree more! that thing was a disaster! after driving all the way up there, we waited in a parking line for 7 F'n hours to park! $5 water and all of the other way overpriced sh!t. it was 100 degrees, and half of the place was concrete which radiated the heat. too hot to drink, even. i was woozy half the time from the heat. then there was the "mud" that people were throwing, which was really just leaky port-a-john piss mixed with dirt. and everyone was walking around with such F-You attitudes.

the Ravestock they had one night was cool, but aside from that and a few other things (James Brown opening the show, Kid Rock's set, and a few others) it was an over-priced waste of time.

we left Sunday afternoon. I was not surprised when i turned on the tv when i got home and saw the place on fire.

at any rate, here's a panorama i photoshopped together from some pictures i took with a disposable camera:

It's a marketing device to get you to spend money. You can't recreate Woodstock. It was special because of when it took place.

Besides, if you wanna drop acid and see a show go to bonaroo.

I can't take any festival seriously that had Limp Bizkit.

Is it really that important to recreate it anyway? You really can't, and there's now dozens of these types of things every year. There's no potential lineup that could distinguish itself from Coachella, Bonnarroo, Austin Music Festival, etc. etc. etc.
