I don't know the last time I've seen one. I had one for awhile right at the time cell phones were becoming affordable for everyone. I didn't have it long but I thought I was SO COOL! Mine was clear. Remember how people tried to use them for texting before we even knew what that was? Good times.

Some of my co-workers still use them because cell phones aren't allowed in secure facilities.

I still use one for when Sheriff Dispatch needs me to come impound some scumbag's dog for them in the middle of the night. That way, I can wake up for a few seconds before talking to them, as opposed to hearing the phone ringing from a dead sleep and talking to someone right off the bat with drool streaming down my face.

Back in the early 90's we used to text bets to friends at the track. We had a pretty sophisticated series of codes too. When I got my first Zach Morris model cell phone, I had a pager as well, since it was so fucking expensive to make calls. It was easier to drop a few dimes into a pay phone if one was around.

Last time I saw one was high school in the mid 90's. I remember all the girls had them tucked under their Catholic School dresses. Almost all the kids there were pretty rich so of course they had to have one even if all their friends were with them in school and no one would be paging them all day.
It's been awhile though. Like someone else said though, people still use them because you can't bring cell phones in certain places, like parts of hospitals I think.

2 things:
1. What would flat girls do? Or were flat girls not popular enough to need a pager?
2. Would that be more dangerous then on your hips? All of a sudden your shirt might start vibrating and it's easier for others to hear up there.

1. the flat girls would wear bigger shirts i guess...
2.the nuns would check our waists occasionally. they never did the boob space check. the rich girls who had cells would hide them there too.

Pagers are still around. The hospital uses it and when we go on call once every 2 months it's usually the ER or Screening calling for or relaying info to the staff on call.

I remember when pagers got the ability to receive text messages and we thought it was the greatest technology ever. Instead of a bunch of numbers you had to decode you got the actual message. It was fantastic. And all for $3.99 a month.
Now we have cell phones and everybody just texts anyway.

Skypager was the shit - nationwide numeric paging!

I used to have a pager... Then I went around a sharp turn at a very unsafe speed and it slid across my dashboard, out the open window and shattered on the road.
I got my first cell phone about 2 weeks after that.

Wow. I remember thinking what a great convenience it was to be able to go out and still have a way for someone to get in touch with you. All we needed was some quarters and a phone booth, which were on like every other corner. Damn, how times have changed.

I had one, fuckin dug it and still remember the number. I have a friend who's a nurse and still uses one when she's on call. Another friend works for a bank and when she was at branch level she used one when she was on call for ATM breakdowns. I worked with a dude who wore his on the gold chain around his neck.

I had one until 1999. I was a retail manager. I'd leave work for the day, and the people at work would start paging me within 15 minutes after I left every freaking day.

The pager I used to have at my old job was the one where you had the options of just leaving a number, leaving a voicemail or leaving a text message through telling the operator what you wanted to say. The only bad thing about the text message option was that the director got a copy of what a person texted you in the monthly text reports.

Had the same one!! That was probably the best beeper model.
My favorite part about beepers:
"I paged you."
"Oh, I didn't get the page sorry."
