Here I am, sitting in class, and I just can't focus. I've been out of college for about 6 years now, these are the first classes i've taken since then.
I can't study either. I used to be able to sitdown and read a text book, make notes for hour at a time; no problem.
When did my brain turn to cottage cheese?

I know what you mean. I've taken a few work-related classes since college and I feel like my mind is not soaking anything up. I think that aside from natural aging processes, it could also be due to the fact that you have more on your mind (besides classes) now than when you were in college (I know I do).
In college-> When's the next party?
After college-> Mortgage, utility bills, work layoffs, car repairs, house repairs, work issues, When's the next party?
See what I mean?

Furie,
Hamg in there, buddy! I went back to college a few years back to get my nursing degree while holding down a 40+ a week job (With Kids, too).
It can be done- it just takes patience and time. Don't give up. Your time will come in no time at all!!
Good luck!!

yeah i know what you mean.
it could also be that i've forgotten how to learn.
i'm lucky that it's only a 7 week work-related class. i'd be in a bad place if this was college.

FURIE - All the comments are accurate, including your own.
It is hard to get back into studying after a protracted absense from school or learning. You're at a different stage in your life than you were then, with more responsibilities.
To make up for the added difficulty, I've found that when you're older you appreciate and enjoy your studies much more than you did as a kid. (If I could, I'd be a professional student - taking everything but math - my achilles heel.)
