Conchords makes them seem like they are going for laughs. The Guardian described them as "a self-styled 'slacker-art-rap Dutchpop world music band with mad street cred".

While its is funny(ish) I don't think laughs are the primary motivator here. I thought it was a commentary on how vapid pop music has become - you LITERALLY just need a hook, it no longer matters what your even saying.
