With all these babies being born (from the board and people I know personally) it got me thinking about baby names. It seems like so much thought and care goes into choosing the "perfect" name, but how often is the child happy with it?

It seems like a lot of people don't like their name, so I thought we'd take a poll. Personally, I like mine but I hate my middle name. What say you?

ANC

I think I remember going through a phase as a little kid that I didn't like it though.

My middle name I could take it or leave it...it's not important enough to have a real opinion on.

led37zep
06-22-2009, 11:31 AM
Yes, Yes I do.

When I was a kid I used to hate it. I've been known as Chad as long as I've been alive but my given name is Charles. Something bothered me about it when I was young...not sure why.

As I grew older and I realized it was a family name and I was 8th Charles Parker I started to really appreciate it and dig the name. I slowly started working it into professional situations.

I still go by Chad (especially in the listening threads and on the phone) but that's mainly because its what I've been known as my entire life.

The trend I see nowadays especially with young mothers, is combining names or just changing the spellings which annoy the shit out of me.

I dont want to offend anyone that may have kids with these names so Ill pick one from a relative of mine that decided to combine Chloris with Linda for Chlorinda. I fucking hate it.

I love it.

One time Jerry and I went to our local pub. Jerrys co-worker walked in and a guy I went to high school with walked in a few minutes later. There we were sitting at the bar 3 Jerrys and 1 Jeri. The locals, great friends of ours, kept calling out the name. Either none of us would answer or answer at the same time when they yelled our names. Good times!:drunk:

Do you have ideas for names of babies?

I have two that are normal enough to not get mocked, but different enough so that they wouldn't have 10 other kids in their class with the same name.

Benjamin or Nigel
and
Sofia

I was considering Sofia, or more so, Sophie - I looked it up and discovered that the name is on the rise. It's like naming your kid Dylan.

I hate my sister's name... it just does not sound nice... at the time it was still unique but just months after it started picking up in town and more kids were named the same for a few more years... her name is Ilka
When we picked the name for my niece it was a similar story, though I LOVE her name ... but she was the first to be named that in town and it has been picked up since, her name is Leonie

It's weird, the two cousins who I'm closest to hate their names, and I have no idea why, I think they're both pretty names, but I guess girls are typically more judgmental about things about themselves they can't control if that makes any sense. Anyway, I think my name is cool, even though it's pretty common.

I like it, sometimes annoys me that it is assumed that i am Spanish because of it (via phone mostly). If i also had a nickel for every time someone sung my name to me i would be rich.

My middle name is a variation of my mother's middle name and my last name has been fucked up to high heavens in pronunciation throughout my life. Other than that it is almost the perfect palindrome sans 1 letter.

If your name was Marisol, Maryse, or Mara; then I could see the assumption.

Since my name is not that common people thought I was spanish all the time based on my married last name... it was so annoying. I would get all kinds of mail and calls in Spanish, even from my bank or insurance... talk about racial profiling... I even yelled at a solicitor once cause his attitude towards me just pissed me off...

Yeah but the Italians usually go the "Marie" route, at least in Jersey that's the stereotype.

It mostly happens at work (New Brunswick area), so i guess they go by what the standard they are more commonly used to.

maybe that is just in your area? I have worked with many Maria's and they were Italian or German... it probably depends on the population of Italians or Hispanics in the area you are in.. and which group the name typically gets "assigned" to...
