A few days ago I did a Mac update and saw there was a new Safari update, so I got it. It makes it look a little slicker, but I have had a few ocassaions when it locks on me and I need to force quit it from the dock. Has anyone else had this issue?

I am still sticking with firefox.

Haven't tried the new safari yet but it looks like it has a feature similar to "spaces" on Leopard.

No issues with Safari 4 on either my PC or Mac, but I can see that the Top Sites and Cover Flow views could cause a problem, particuarly on an older machine.

Go into Preferences and try changing the lines for Open New Window and Open New Tab to either "None" or "Home Page", not "Top Sites."

Also go into the Bookmarks page and double click on the slider bar between the cover flow view and the names of your bookmarks to turn that off.

I did notice that Apple's already put out an update -- 4.0.1 is out there now. Try updating.

I liked the beta version of Safari 4.0 better then the final release of it

Thanks! I cant find the area you are referring to in the Bookmarks though. I do not see the cover flow selection or any slider. Maybe my machine is old and its not there? Its a G5

Yeah, if your computer isn't capable of running it, it disables it automatically.

thats weird, is it an old g5?
do you know if it supports core image?

i figured even the oldest g5 towers did, is it pretty old?

if you dont know what core image/graphics are just go to the system profile in the apple menu and select your graphic card, it'll tell you if its supported or not.

safari's great on older machines, it performs a lot better than firefox on my old cube.
