...to hate any sports teams just because of their fans? For example, I hate Seattle Mariners because their fans were a bunch of jerkoffs during Don Mattingly's final game. I've never liked the team and have wished them failure for the rest of the franchise's history just because of that.
Anybody else feel this way about a sports team? Are we wrong? I don't think so.

it's the best reason for hating a team. Players, coaches, even owners come and go but a city's fans keep their general character from one generation to the next. Even if someone wants to be reasonable and say it's not fair to judge all of a city's fans based on the behavior of a few fans, it's just fun to hate the fans and exaggerate everything bad about them.

I hated the Whalers because their fans applauded a franchise which glorified the slaughter of such a majestic being.

You must have been happy when they changed into Redneck killers.

Eh.
Appalachian killers would be more apropos, but that spreads all the way up the Eastern seaboard to Nova Scotia, doesn't it?
So let's not be too accurate, or anything.

I hate New York Ranger fans. Why so proud of a franchise that has done so little of late?
Same with the Flyer fans. Can't stand them. I guess it's a general hate of Philly.

"So what if I want to call the Whalers a bunch of faggots in the privacy of my own office?!?"

Let me say this about Seattle Mariners fans: I've been to two games at Yankee Stadium when they were playing the Mariners over the last couple of years and both times the place was loaded with nuclear fusion-hot Japanese women. (It must be nice to be Ichiro or Matsui, I guess.) So your premise is fatally flawed.
