Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki (Legion) have been cast in MGM/UA's remake of Red Dawn, which is set to begin filming in September, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
They join the already-cast Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) in the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.
Peck (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs) will play Matt Eckert—the role originated by Charlie Sheen—the hotheaded younger brother of Hemsworth's Jed Eckert (originally played by Patrick Swayze) and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team. Palicki will play Toni, the role first inhabited by Jennifer Grey.
Dan Bradley, a stunt coordinator and second-unit director on The Bourne Ultimatum and Quantum of Solace, will direct the revamp based on the 1984 Cold War-era film co-written and directed by John Milius. Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmore wrote the updated screenplay. The film is scheduled to hit theaters Sept. 24, 2010.
Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton) will rewrite the remake. (Jed to Russian commie: "Do I look like I'm negotiating?")
Here's what the site said:
Not surprising considering that Dan Bradley, the director of the remake, was the second unit director of the Jason Bourne films, which Gilroy penned.
Gilroy has recently delivered a 107 page draft dated 06-01-09. The remake was penned by Carl Ellsworth and Jeremy Passmore and based on the 1984 Cold War-era film co-written and directed by John Milius. ...
The story is about a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.

Cubans, Russians and Nicaraguans.
Why on Earth wouldn't they just make the movie about an insurgency against an American invasion and not call it Red Dawn?

It"s not very good, its very great! Love Red Dawn. The people that knocked it in this thread hate America and Patrick Swayze, which are two interchangable terms.

I had forgotten about this.... here is why:
The Red Dawn remake was, in theory, completed nearly two years ago. Yet there's still no sign of it, and reports suggest it's being re-edited for political reasons. (http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/823608/the_saga_of_the_red_dawn_remake.html)
That's right. Due to the above concerns, MGM are now busy digitally erasing Chinese flags and military symbols from the Red Dawn remake. Not just that, but the studio is re-editing dialogue and altering the film to depict much of the invading force as being from North Korea, a country that no-one seems to worry about offending.
The re-shoots are set to cost just under $1 million and will include changing an opening prologue depicting the film's backdrop, re-editing two scenes and transforming many Chinese symbols to Korean. It seems that all references to China will be impossible to erase, but it will definitely be North Korea that's the 'Big Bad'.
Holy shit.

I hope they change the title, because the word "Red" is very offensive.

In idea, yes. In execution, no.
Homefront (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/homefront/index.html)
One thing I hope for in this remake is some explanation as to how the invading forces get in and why we do nothing about it. In the original, unless I missed the explanation, how where those forces able to just parachute their way in and then why was there no response by the U.S. military.

I wish that really happened to Hollywood so we would never again have to endure something so awful.
