I when I hear Ron talk about music (which always blows me away), he seems to go back and forth between the term group and band. I wanted to know what constituted as musical band and what constituted as a group. When I think of The Supremes and The Temptations, I think they are a "group". When I think of Poison or ACDC, I think "band."
Does the term "group" mean that those performing are only singing, and that they don't play their own instruments? Would the term "band", then, mean the opposite?
What would you classify The Beetles as: a group or a band?

The Beetles?
Well, I know the Beatles were a band.
They played instruments and wrote their own music.
Most certainly a BAND.
What kind of idiot asshole would label them a "group"? (based upon your proposed(?) definition?)
Oh, by the way (in reality) group and band are synonymous.
There is no set definition.

I wasn't sure - that is why I was asking if there was a difference.

I know. I was changing my mind throughout my post.
I always prefer the term band if the members are playing instruments, but group works as well.
Band is the "go to", but the term "BOY BAND" exists...
and we ALL know that's a load of shit.
I don't know anymore!

"I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audition."

I think it may just be a factor of the times. I think "group" was used more often in the era before the mid 70's. Band started getting used more often in modern times.
"The BAND!"

I always considered "The Band" a group.
There's no consistency here.
