This guy from my little town of Racine joined a Biggest Loser contest at the athletic club in Rochester. He actually lost 110.2 lbs in 12 weeks. I thought I read it wrong. Great for him, but sort of unhealthy, right?
He said he ate between 1500-1800 calories each day and worked out for 1 hour 45 minutes every day. That doesn't sound unhealthy.
Anyhow, from my other thread, Back Yard Birthday Bash, my birthday is coming up in September. 2 years ago my goal was to be 128 lbs by my 30th birthday. I thought if this guy could lose 110 lbs, maybe I could lose the weight I needed to too by my birthday.
I joined a calorie counting website yesterday. I am hoping for the best!!

I lost 60lbs in about 4 months, and have kept most of it off for a number of years
but I live alone, I don't think I could have done that living in a house where I'm seeing other people eating my favorite snacks day after day.

This is me...what do you think? I have gotten way too chunky (ok, fat) since I had my 2 kids. A lot of people still think I am pregnant!! I used to be a normal, average sized gal.

I lost like 36 pounds in 3 months. Its not that hard but you need to have discipline. You really need to eat food as fuel not as entertainment. Everytime you want to cheat remember how bad you feel about being out of shape. Then you have to also work out like 5-6 times per week for at least an hour.

Yeah that calorie counter site told me to eat 1400 calories each day. It keeps track of it for me. It was really hard yesterday, but today I have been busier. I used to smoke (pre kids) so I didn't eat that much. Now, I think I eating is my habit.

good luck!
My friend was trying to tell me the only way she lost weight was on a 500 calorie diet... I told her she is insane, but she said it really depends on WHAT you eat... but seriously, starving yourself is not going to help in the long run.
I already have noticed that despite eating a lot or often here it is all healthier and I walk and move so much that I have not gained but started losing some belly fat... not nearly enough but it's a start.
For me it is all about exercise which has become obsolete after the kiddo and a full time job.

I know, which is the reason I plan to eat and live a lot healthier when we come back. We will have time to walk and exercise... do garden work and also to cook and prepare meals more wisely.

Big Girl,
What is your current weight?
Healthy weight loss should occur at 1.5 to 2 pounds per week.
Try weight watchers. It really works. Avoid Jenny Craig or whatever. Their food is garbage.
So do lines of coka, but lets not go that route.
Best Regards,
Denise

If you are significantly over weight and can spare over 50 lbs of body fat to lose... There is no unhealthy way to lose the weight; whether it's exercise, dieting, starvation, or surgery, the benefits far exceed your risk associated with a being a fat ass.

actually,
weight loss like that is very traumatic to the human body. this is why extreme fat asses (im talking 5,6,700 lbs) have to go on a very controlled diet. they actually cannot just "lose the weight". it has to be slow and steady so that the heart can adjust accordingly to it.

Good luck you can do it!!!!
The key to weight loss is what you put into is what you will get out of it. You have to really be diligent on trying to lose weight. I know I used to be over 370 now I am down to 300 with about another hundred to go. You did not gain the weight overnight you will not lose it overnight. Don't deprive yourself something you really want to eat you just have to eat in moderation. If you fall off the wagon don't kill yourself just smack yourself in the head and say ok let's get back into the routine. Talk to your doctor see what they recommend. Try eating 3 small meals with 3 healthy snacks in between and definitely try and exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. You will start feeling better in about 2 weeks and you will feel your clothes becoming larger also.
Remember you are doing this for yourself and then everyone else.

I went from 375lbs to 230lbs within the same amount of time. As long as you are eating right, not killing yourself past your limit at the gym, and sleep/take vitamins it is obtainable.

Try weight watchers. It really works.
This is true. But don't bother with the prepackaged foods. The beauty of weight watchers is that you do not stop eating any particular foods you just eat less of it. Eventually, you feel guilty for over eating - when that occurs, you've finally learned the proper amount of food you should eat in one sitting. I did it a long time ago and lost 30 lbs in 4.5 months. I didn't exercise once! The weight never came back because I had learned to eat properly.
EDIT - You can join WW online. No need to go those in person meetings!

I have subscribed to the slow but steady. Since 07 I have lost 65 lbs. I lost 30 lbs in 07 and then 30 more in 08. I was really discipline and then I would fall off the wagon hard. I did it by eating 1600 to 1900 calories a day , but then working out 1 hour to 15 min to 1 hour and a half 3 to 4 times a week.
I am back from vacation, so I am back in the groove. I need to lose 30 more by the end of the year.
Good luck!

I have done Weight Watchers. I got pregnant 2 of the times and had to quit, then I went back after baby 2. We just couldn't afford it anymore, and it just wasn't working for me for the money. The plan is great, and I feel it works even better if you have the motivation.
I am trying a calorie counting thing. So far so good. Plus, it is FREE! Yay!! I despise the gym even though I feel better after a good workout. I hate sweating. I don't mind walks with the kids and biking. I'll probably do more of that.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you how much I HATE exercise and how I would be happy as a couch potato forever, but I am starting to change my ways. I was getting too heavy and depressed along with it. My husband recognized this and has tried very hard to help me. If there is any way you can get Rhino to team with you and make the workout a partner thing it makes a HUGE difference.
Granted we don't have kids so I don't know what scheduling would be like but all the gyms seem have child care. If money's an issue maybe you can committ to walking or biking a certain distance together severl times a week coupled with better eating habits. You talked in your other post about "together" time and it has done wonders for my husband and I to share this very tough experience of getting in shape together. All the best!

Try not to focus too much on what the scale says. When you start working out and gain muscle, you will notice your clothes fitting better as you will become more toned. Your shape will seemingly change and you'll notice those curves coming back. Even if you gain a couple pounds you will still look better.
While most people gain weight after high school and their early twenties, I am the opposite. I was chubby in high school and then starved myself after graduation. I lost most of my figure and looked horrible and felt like shit all the time. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. I like food and like to eat, but in moderation. So in order for me to be able to eat what I want I need to move.
If you hate to work out, find someone to go with you, buddy up, it'll keep you motivated, but mostly do something you ENJOY.
I do two nights of Yoga, and I alternate 3 days out of the week between spin classes and strength training. The strength training is my least favorite so I only do that 1x/wk at most.
If you can and I know it gets pricey, weight watchers is really useful if you're determined. Good Luck!!!!!
If all else fails, hire a mean brother to torment you and comment on your girth everyday until you loose weight just to shut him up.

Weight Watchers in general helps. I used it about 5 years ago (didn't go to the meetings because my mom had gotten all their materials for free) and, along with a pretty intense wakling regimen, lost 130 lbs in a little over a year. I just got back on it this week (using their online version this time) to finally get back into shape. Fortunately I have a lot less weight to lose this time around.

Counting calories is a pain in the ass, but effective if you are diligent and honest. I use this site: http://caloriecount.about.com/
It's free and you can count both your eating calories and your exercise calories. It also graphs your weight progress and sets goals. I found it to be as good as WW online, although it is counting calories instead of points.
It's important to consider two things. First, it takes 3500 calories to lose or gain a pound. Second, if you exercise too, it may slow your weight loss at first if you build muscle, but will burn more metabolic calories in the long run and is very beneficial to your fitness.

I went from 260 lbs. of fat in 07 to 240 pounds of muscle in 08. I went to the gym and did about 20 minutes of cardio and 1 1/2 hours of working out a day for 5 days a week. But I didnt cut back on eating. I just changed how I ate. Instead of eating 2 big meals (lunch and dinner) I forced myself to eat as soon as I woke up and started eating 6-7 smaller meals a day. It was great. I was losing weight and always eating.
What sucks is Im getting fatter again now because of the recession I had to start working nights too which meant no more gym. And with my routine all fucked up I got my bad eating habits back. It fucking sucks.

The most successful diet outside of the PhenFen was one where I cut out red meat and dairy and sugar. Basically anything that was processed was out of the question so everything was fresh and it was a pain in the behind to cook because there's no way everyone in my house is going to eat that way. It's a little expensive to buy everything from the vegetables to things like oat bran and fish and chicken but it was a good program. I lost about 17 pounds in a month but you plateau and like someone said normal weight loss is 1.5 pounds or a little more per week. Exercise sucks but it really does help especially if you are over 30 and are concerned about losing weight and having things snap back since sometimes having children can result in some skin elasticity issues in the tummy area. it's better to lose slow and learn to eat healthy. Nutrisystem is horrible I bought into that a couple years ago and there's still fricking food in the pantry from their auto shipments. I guess I can use it in case of natural disaster. I wish there was a quick fix PhenFen was great then those people had to go and die from taking it...it just takes a few to ruin it for everyone. Good luck and stick with it!!!

WW lifetime goal member for a year now :bye: AND... I never got pregnant. You must be doing it wrong :innocent:
Seriously, try WW or your cal counter, but whole/raw foods or min processed and sorry but no way around it, you gotta work out to make it last. You will eventually like working out when you do it long enough to make it a habit.

Speaking from my own experience, and after seeing family members with weight problems experience the same things, *real* success is probably not going to come until it becomes such a big deal psychologically to you that you bottom out and come to terms with the idea that lasting lifestyle changes are needed, and that it's not going to be any fun. In fact it's going to suck hard. If when you get right down to brass tacks, if a piece of cheesecake or pizza or whatever is worth more to you than losing another pound, then no amount of guilt or nagging or social pressure is going to make you it worth it to you. You're just not ready.
It's trite to say, but it's true: you really have to want it. It's very easy for a person to generate 48 hours worth of motivation just by looking at themselves in the mirror with disgust on Monday morning and vowing to change. I do that just about every week, and usually by Wednesday I'm right back to having a beer with my buddy at the local pub. I'd say I have between 10-20 pounds to lose and I try frequently to finally get rid of it, but when it comes down to it, it just isn't worth the sacrifice to me. At least not yet. And that's why I keep failing.
Good luck and keep us posted.

not so good. I was doing very well about a week ago, then I am not sure what happened. I know what happened, we had brats, damn those things. Typically if we have them they are the turkey ones, but no, the store didn't have those!
I have been a lot more active though, maybe that counts for something.
