I do admit that, while they are great shows, the emotional depth of a Futurama or Home Movies is exaggerated because they are cartoons, and I wouldn't give the same exact live action show the same credit. I'm willing to be manipulated into that greater emotional impact, some people like Ron aren't. So I think you just have to say "Oh well, their loss."
i just dislike the idea of passing off not watching it because its 'kid stuff'. it doesnt seem very open minded.

Two of my favorites! Cartoons aren't for everyone. I think people should be open and try everything once but no sense in pushing it on someone who has no interest. My step father just can't wrap his brain around my brother watching cartoons and gaming. Maybe it's generational.

I watch them because they are the only place you can find true honest, uncensored comedy on tv anymore. Showtime and HBO not included.
The shit they get away with on Family Guy and South Park would have any live action sitcom cancelled in ten minutes.

I remember a break on WJFK where everyone on the show talked about their favourite Simpsons moments and Ron liked the show just fine. He also mentioned watching Spirited Away and thought the animation was beautiful but the story was Japanese craziness.

I think that ron is open minded about a lot of things, but when it comes to movies i think there are some things he doesn't give a fair shake. Maybe he's seen enough movies to know by the previews and directors what he will and won't like. Its no big deal though, not every person has to be open minded about everything and anything. I know ron really likes soccer, I never watch it but I know I don't like it.

Ahahahahahahaahaha! If you think he doesn't hold tight to his era and opinions as much as blowhard you certainly aren't paying attention. I've yet to hear Ron ever even sway a little on his original thoughts. Still, it isn't like anyone on the show ever gives him a good argument even on those very few occasions they disagree with him.

Cartoons I'd like to add, ATHF (some can miss), Squidbillies (misses here and there too, but you have to try it), Bleach (great Japanimation), Inuyasha (great Japanimation), Deathnote (suspense/thriller Japanamation), Frisky Dingo (OUTSTANDING every episode), Venture Brothers (again I know), Lucy Daughter of the Devil (wicked funny), Home Movies (a ton of the same crew as Lucy), South Park (duh), Futurama (it's back!).

Win, however bleach is far better in Japanese with English subs(the manga is pretty solid). All the others are win and ATHF is magical if you're high.

Ron didn't like soccer like 2 years ago. Someone made him watch it and he completely changed his mind about it.
And the movie thing has to be him just fucking around, so everyone thinks he's too cool for the room.
He saw The Happening AND Wanted IN the theater. He'll watch anything.

I'll give soccer as an example again and I'll point out the whole "Tool" discussion a few months back. He said he'd relisten to their music to see what he's missing. I think Ronnie is very open minded, especially when it comes to any type of the arts.

I'm pretty sure, as others have pointed out earlier, that the whole "Ron hates cartoons" thing is mostly bit. He's mentioned watching certain cartoons in the past. He probably feels that MOST cartoons aren't for him so he has to hear a lot about one to even consider seeing it but he's watched them.

Did he actually not like soccer, or was he just playing along with the attitude that most Americans have toward it? I'm not so sure on that, but if that is true that's one example in years of listening to the show.
As for tool, I didn't really here him again change his mind versus giving it a shot for the first time. There is a difference with this versus having one's opinion changed.

To me it almost seems like the same take my father has on some topics. They're both about the same age and have both been involved in one form or another with the entertainment field for years. It's almost like they are set in their ways and it takes a lot of push to get them to try something that breaks generation lines.

disagree. remember the one show where he started talking about growing up, and how if he read books like he does now, he would have been beat up and outcast? you don't think he's left behind a lot of the ideals and beliefs of his time and place?
I can't even imagine the amount of movies ron sees. Remember when he'd have the lady from IFC on and they'd go over movie after movie and ron had seen them all. he talks about seeing a lot of movies on cable, late at night. So he's seen a lot of the movies he bags on. It's not that he avoids them, he's seen them and thinks they suck.
Remember when the guy from National Treasure who came on and gave him all the attitude--'thanks for seeing my movie?' Ron gave him a lashing for ten minutes, and then what did he say? "Now, I did see your movie."
I love the critic. But i'm not going to somehow love it less because Ron doesn't...

I loved The Critic, but agree with you that because of the pop culture references, it is fairly dated and getting worse with passing years. It might not be the best choice to shove in Ron's face to prove cartoons are viable forms of entertainment.
Stuff like Home Movies don't references topics of the time as much so those would be a better choice.
I just want to jump in and say that Princess Mononoke is an incredible film by any standards. Anyone who dismisses it just because it's a cartoon or it's from Japan are only doing themselves a disservice.
