Keds, or Skippies as my fam called them, were the go-to shoe for when i needed new sneakers, but it wasnt time for my next pair (we got new name brand sneakers once every year). yes we were poor like that, but they were also good for the trashing shoes would normally get during summer camp, etc.

We were so poor we couldn't afford keds.
Instead, we bought no name skippies at the chinese variety shop and then drew in a box with blue ball point pen so from far away they would look like keds.
You guys all had it too good. I bet you got to eat real Kellog's Frosted Flakes too. We got store brand and then had to sprinkle sugar on the flakes ourselves.

Back in the day as long as you had a brand name you weren't mocked. These were the days before the expensive sneakers, which for me were the Puma Clydes, which cost about $40 in the mid-70's. Parents were outraged at paying those high prices, so most of us wore Keds, Converse and my alltime favorite, PF Flyers!
