What are your thoughts/feelings towards hipsters?
What makes someone a hipster?
Who is the quintessential hipster?

I only have a gripe with the trust-fund babies.
Hipsters though? They're no different then the punks, freaks, goths, drunks, writers or thugs (...dweebs, motorheads, sportos, buttheads...).
They are a collective who identify with a costume and a particular music.

Vampire Weekend, Animal Collective, The National, Phoenix (<- new album is fantastic). Those and a few others are in pretty heavy rotation right now. There's some other artists I hear that I dig, but haven't found full albums out yet, like Iran and The Golden Filter. Everyone seems to be from Brooklyn.

My impression was always that they were privileged children from a rich families that hate mommy and daddy for working so hard and providing them with clothes, food, shelter and everything else they want.
In order to rebel, they dress like bums and vote democrat, but have no idea why. they still take the big checks from mommy and daddy every month, b/c they love shopping and sitting around complaining about how Bush and Cheney suck and how Jon Stewart is sooooo deep and funny and insightful (while ignoring that Stewart is a hack who reads the same jokes over and over every night, then mugs for the camera).

My only question here is what makes the people judging "hipsters" so cool? Like who is the ultimate, high level "cool person" who says what actually is cool and what isn't. Or who is actually into a scene and who is faking?
Sounds like a lot of dipshits in bad clothes and sub-par music scenes all pointing at each other that the other is a fake.

That's my thoughts on the matter. I think part of the whole hipster thing is to point at each other and accuse each other of being a hipster. I don't give a shit, I just don't like people who smell like BO is all, or people who wear scarves.

I'll take a stab at this one. I think one of the pioneers of hipsterdom in his later years was John Lennon. He didn't grow up near NYC but he moved there, he's got an Asian girlfriend, and his hairstyle could be described as "messy."
