We're about 5 days out from the 2009 MLB draft, anyone else getting excited. The Cardinals have the #19 pick, and I'm really interested to see what they do with it. The Nationals have two picks in the top 10, including the #1 pick, so they could get some crucial pieces for a few years down the road. What are you looking for in this years draft?

there are a ton of catching prospects this year for some reason, going in the first round would be amazing for him.

as for me, i'm hoping strasburg drops to 72nd.

According to our local paper the Red Sox are really high on him. Theo Epstein has already met with him and he is going to work out at Fenway the day before the draft.

does anyone know if ESPN will televise this event like they've done in the past? or will they MLB network get it?

problem is in the nfl draft those guys getting drafted will or could play right away in the nfl or at least be a backup for a yr or 2 then become a starter

how many guys get drafted in the mlb draft do the same ?? very rarely

most have a few years in the minors before they even sniff AAA let alone the majors

true, and it's not uncommon for a first round pick, even a top 5 pick, to never make the bigs. That's pretty rare in the NFL and NBA.

well its impossible since theres no minor leagues in the nfl or nba, unless you count the nbdl but its not directly related like a minor league

so as soon as they get drafted theyre in the league

true but it is technically possible that a guy would get drafted high and never actually play a game.

no, I meant in the NFL or NBA. It's not IMPOSSIBLE that a guy could get taken in the first round and never play. I'm not sure if it has happened, and if so it must be very rare.

Brien Taylor was the Yankees draft pick that broke his hand in a bar fight, right?

only guy i can think of is len bias and thats b/c he died

since theres no minor leagues in the nfl or nba, that high draft pick will see at least a minute of playing time somewhere, whether it be on special teams in the nfl or garbage time in a blowout in the nba

as for taylor yeh he tore his labrum in a bar fight protecting his brother

Who is watching? its on MLB Network. Im liking the coverage they are giving. Too bad Mets dont have any pick in the first round. They don't pick until the 72nd pick overall.
