I'm not talking about the Pac-Man fever record w/ fancy graphics in the vinyl mom got you for Christmas when you were 5. I'm talking the very first album you spent your own money on.

Mine was Public Enemy Fear Of A Black Planet

I'm pretty sure it was Metallica - Reload. Before that I had just dubbed friend's CDs onto cassettes.

The first albums I ever owned were the Monkees debut, a Sesame Street record and the Hard Day's Night album I stole from my mother. The first album I ever bought with my own money was Sgt. Pepper.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
I remember hearing Iron Man on the radio when I was 11 and it changed everything. Those opening chords were just the coolest fucking thing I had ever heard. I understand people talking about seeing Beatles on Ed Sullivan and their lives being different from that point on. I felt the same way with Black Sabbath.

It was Foreigner's self titled album.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_tvrKYr4UASk/SKPiAqfSCoI/AAAAAAAAAIs/Qy6LTF8zfsM/s320/AlbumCovers-Foreigner(1977).jpg
I remember my dad saying what does he mean what feels like what first time ?!?!?
The thought of having to keep Foreigner on the down low still cracks me up.
Same year Star Wars came out... good times.

I acquired this album from my step-dad

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/414A0105TYL._SS500_.jpg

The first tape I bought was some MC Hammer thing at about 9-10 years of age.

http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s6736.jpg

Then I purchased this CD in High School - changed my life.

when I was about 10 or 11 I got my stepfathers old " West German" tape recorder which was a big thing... the brand was Stern and it was in a wooden casing like this
http://www.rft-hifigeraete.de/mediac/400_0/media/R~160.jpg

anyway, my dad gave me my first tape and it was Genesis but an older album, I think one of the first ones with Phil Collins.

My first own tapes I actually stole... (yes, I was one of those kids who would steal tapes and pens... ) and they were Elvis and Beatles tapes...

When I finally paid for tapes (a year or two later) I bought them in Hungary cause it was cheap there and the first were Metallica and Gn'R tapes. (Use your Illusion I & II) all at the same time.

First 2 albums were the red and blue Beatles 62-66 and 67-70 with the same picture looking down from a stairway taken at two ends of their careers. I wore the grooves out of them.
