my current laptop desktop, that little pop up is gnome do, sort of like spotlight on osx but with a snazzier ui but not as thorough with results...which actually makes it a great launcher.

hell most people with macs don't know how to use spotlight as a launcher.

up top is the ubuntu menu...alot like the old apple menu... my workspace selector... open menus... the finder face guy launches the file browser (or finder for apple people) the bullseye force quits aps, and the rest you know.

gotta love ubuntu....

Typically I do too.

But as a grad student and using my personal computer for school and work, I need to have a lot of things easily accessible.

yeah, cluttered desktops bug me too, just create folders in your documents folder, assign them custom icons and place them in the dock, that way you have access without having to hide whatever you're looking at.

or simply give your documents better names so you can quickly open em with spotlight..

all those icons scare me.

I'm actually listening to their new album as we speak. Very different.

I like all their albums. They ain't kids no more so I don't expect FUCK YEAH, EAT SHIT COPS SMOKE POT!@#!@ Nick is pushing 40, so, their music progression is fitting. Much more mature and adult. They also are class personified with what they give back to their fans.

Wow, this turned out to be the best thread ever for me. I hate a cluttered desktop so I had most of my shit in my quick launch but there were some things I couldn't put there. As a result of this thread I downloaded rocketdock and this is what my desktop looks like now. I think once I get used to it I will eventually set it to autohide, thats how I have my start bar so when you look at my desktop all you will see is the picture...Love it!
