2009 Churchill Cup in Denver
The Churchiull Cup (http://www.churchillcuprugby.net/leagues/newsletter.cfm?clientID=3731&leagueID=10901)(June 6 – 21) is a rugby tournament held in North America since 2003, the host nation is either the United States or Canada. The purpose of this rugby tournament is to promote the game of rugby in North America and the skills of American and Canadian national rugby team players.
USA Rugby (http://www.usarugby.org/) will host this years tournament. Five other teams will attend; Canada, Uruguay, Ireland “A”, England Saxons and the Republic of Georgia. The IRB (International Rugby Board) (http://www.irb.com/index.html)has Georgia ranked 13th, Canada 15th, USA 19th and Uruguay 20th. England Saxons (England “A”) & Ireland “A” are not ranked as they are seen as developmental sides for England & Ireland. These developmental sides are made up of mostly younger professional rugby players who are seen as having legitimate shots at being put on national teams in a year or two. They are the JV side of England & Ireland (they are very very good teams).
My thought on who the US will start this year.
