How are you associating the holy spirit with the other two? The relationship between the father and son is obvious, but is the holy spirit a sort of grandfather or just an overarching greatest of all time?

I think the son is directly from the father.I think the holy spirit connects to the first two but in a more indirect way.

good point about lynch and anderson, but I can't see Kubrick not being the father, Lynch was a stretch...
Kubrick could certainly be father and I think Speilberg (as much as I hate to admit it) would fit as son, but who would be HS? Does Ridley Scott fit in here? Lucas? I'm drawing a blank...

Yeah, Wes Anderson is in a family with Goddard and Truffaut - nowhere near Kubrick and Lynch.

i think for any good modern director, of almost any genre, Hitchcock has to be the holy ghost. Every director that has come after him was influenced by him

Isn't that kind of easy though? While most have been influenced by Hitchcock, most are also influenced by Orson Welles, John Ford, Johh Huston, Billy Wilder, David Lean......etc.
We might be really limiting ourselves on directors here.

i just see Hitchcock as more diverse. Someone like Spielberg though, who really does use a lot of suspense in his movies would def holy ghost the shit out of Hitchcock

Yeah, EPO is right - what do we do with guys like Herzog, Korine, Cassavetes, Malick?
Malick is a monster.

they're all ghosts
the ghost should be dead
i agree
I don't think the Ghost should necessarily be dead, but I think the definition could be expanded to include someone/something that was gigantic briefly, and then just kinda faded away abruptly or showed such wonderful potential but never really lived up to it...Almost like a Phoenix
I think Bobby Orr, Gale Sayers and Sandy Koufax are great examples of those Holy Ghosts, because they were huge stars that shone briefly, but they will always be remembered for how fantastic they were
If you're looking at a "wasted potential" Holy Ghost, I nominate Derrick Coleman
