Bias alert: Jets fan, and Chrebet is one of my favorite all-time players
Yes, there's plenty of comedy to be mined from Citi hiring Wayne Chrebet. My issue with this is that a Citi employee emailed Deadspin FROM HIS WORK ACCOUNT, not only blasting HIS OWN COMPANY who is getting a boatload of TARP money, but a fellow employee as well.
I personally think he should be fired. It's all well and good to put someone on blast from an anonymous email account, but if you're doing it from a work account, identifying another employee's past health problems and your own firm's hiring practices, yes, you should be gone.
Thoughts?

a slap on the wrist.
Since when are you not allowed to complain about what your company does? Should he have addressed his concern with a supervisor instead of emailing his opinion? Probably.

They can probably get him for using company resources for non company related business.
As I post from my work computer :innocent:

If they were really out to get him, it would using company resources for actions detrimental to the company i.e. "Only my company would hire a guy with a head injury", plus also speaking out on behalf of the company unauthorized (for using his work email account), plus creating a hostile work environment (claming Chrebet can't give financial advice because of his concussions)
Obviously, using Chrebet is a very big deal to Citi, because they have press releases and a conference call set up for him.
Trust me - what the anonymous poster did is very, very firable, especially since he did it from work.
If he sent the same email from home at a Yahoo email account, I don't think we're having this conversation.

...why?
I'm a Jets fan, I like scrappy, underdog types, and Chrebet is the very definition of a "Rudy" type player. He didn't have huge numbers, but he was a solid player for many years.

what is the point here? I dont think anyone would argue against firing the guy for using company email to send out shit like that. But whether citi should actually investigate it? It's not like he revealed the identity of a secret agent or something

I can see why its firable, but I dont think he should be fired. I think its kinda funny. And he kind of has a point. Plus its not like he leaked a personal medical history. Its public knowledge that he had to retire because of concussions.
For the record I was a huge Wayne Chrebet fan. He was a sleeper for me in fantasy football in 1997.

Chrebet is there as a marketing tool, not as an actual CFP. I'm pretty sure he'd bring high rollers in, and then have people in the back office do all the work.

I was at a meeting where Brian Propp was introduced as a financial advisor, and all he did was ask people if they wanted a signed picture of him.
