I don't know if I like the term 'party', but I think that human beings have an incredible need to experience altered states of consciousness...

This includes drugs (which includes, coffee, booze, & meds), meditation, prayer, sensory deprivation, love, hate, roller coasters, etc...

Thoughts?

Try reading the post thouroughly... I know that you love to give angry kneejerk reactions; but give it a shot...

I didn't say caffeine is a party drug... but it certainly causes an altered state of consciousness...

Jeez you are such an angry little guy...

i think it has more to do with needing an escape from our crushing insignificance, but i like your theory. maybe you're right, thanks for sharing.

I certainly need to party on occasion.

I will admit to being a Dave like Lush though.

I can go weeks without a drink or even thinking about drinking but when I am out on the town with friends or at a party I don't know when to say when.

Does this make me an alchohalic? Yes

Am I going to stop Drinking? No

<font color="deeppink"> yes we do need to....i think i could sit and write 3000 pages + on each topic and our need for it
love conversations on the topics as such, but its nearly impossible in such a setting which is why i typically talk about how i bled through my pants today and the such

I think statements like the one you made is a way for people that want to do something to justify it by saying it is human nature.

If you want to get fucked up then do it and accept that it is a choice you make as an individual.

Does anyone else here "Black Out" on events from a previous night of drinking?

I do almost every time I drink even if I am not overly drunk.

I always have an uneasy feeling the day after tieing one on, because what I might have said or done.

Yes - we need to party. Reminds me of the Dionysian culture in ancient times. They would drink wine and get naked and go crazy. I guess some weird folks dont need it - but they are pediphiles and murders.

<font color="deeppink"> i know i gave up...but i will try say that i think that terdhole ( hehe jk) BT's point is that a pedophile parties by having sex with kids and a murder parties by violence and the such.....
like we need to have something that stimulates in such a way that it cant necessarily be achieved without the enhancement of some other source.....ish?

Hahaha... I couldn't resist Britney...

I don't think altered states of consciousness have to be a bad thing... I mentioned prayer & meditiation... Also... Confucious came up with rites & ceremonies, Buddhists use koans, Daoists have tai-chi, and athletes do all sorts of rituals in order to get their minds 'right'.

Determining the magnitude in which people choose to alter their consciousness is beyond me; and why people choose the method to do so probably needs to be examined on a individual basis...

I think it's completely subjective. I love to party, and if not for personal obligations, or the damage it would do to my health, I'd be drunk all the time. I love the feeling. I can have a couple of drinks and stop if I am with people that drink in moderation, but I much rather be with a group of power drinkers that are drinking for effect. As long as you are not starting fights, crying, harassing people or basically being a complete jerk off...I don't see the harm.

My wife on the other hand has no interest at all in escaping her own head. She just doesn't get why anyone would want to surrender any control of their thoughts, emotions or motor skills. It's just not in her make up. We actually compliment each other well in that sense. I keep her from being too stiff and she keeps me from drinking myself to death. :):drunk:

I used to rock 'n roll all night and party every day.
Then it was every other day.
Now I'm lucky to find a half hour a week in which to get funky.

I hate the use of the word 'party' as a verb. Always have. Does it mean fun cardboard hats and noisemakers or doing lines of blow off a hooker's ass?

About once a month I have to drink heavily just to keep sane. I have to be responsible day in and day out that I need that one night to go crazy, so I actually don't go mentally crazy. It is a good time for me.

I'm with big girl on that one. Drinking or partying once a month has to be a part of my itinerary. Right now, life is completely crazy. I think the booze wakes me up.

NateCantDance

People use caffeine to get themselves jump started and functioning in the morning, so I don't consider that partying. Actual partying with alcohol or drugs is basically escapism from stress and pressure, which can be a decent way of coping if you can keep it under control and not let the booze consume you.

I guess it stands to reason that if you don't have any stress or pressure to escape from, or you've got a better coping mechanism, then there's no need to party.
