I can never find the video, but when Mariner Moose crashed into the outfield wall and broke his ankle. Not so much sick, as it is hilarious. The guy in the costume is writhing in pain, but the grin on the Moose remains. I think it took a while for people to come to his aid.
Please someone find the video...

It's pretty gross. He had rollerblades on and I seem to recall the one on the broken ankle was turned at a horrible angle.
And there's no way I'm watching that embedded video at the top.

The first ever game I worked at as a student assistant was a men's soccer game. Ten minutes into the game a guy breaks his leg down by his ankle so when he lifts his leg in the air, the foot is pointing the wrong way as he's screaming in pain.

I was at the game in '97 when Andrew Dawson took a fastball to the face:
http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/1987/0720_large.jpg
We had just moved back to the States and we went to the game as a late birthday gift and holy shit, that scared the hell out of me. Dawson's cheek was split open and he's just lumbering around the infield like a furious wounded animal with blood everywhere. As an 8-year-old that really freaked me out and it really fucked up my ability to play baseball for years. Getting in that batter's box all I could see was Dawson getting nailed and it killed my hitting. When I finally started getting over it I was playing some ball with some friends and the pitcher had a linedrive knocked right back at him and smashed his teeth. My baseball days were pretty much done at that point.

The funniest and most gruesome sports accident I can think of is when Favre retired and then joined the Jets.
Still gives me the shivers when I catch replays of it.

I did that playing basketball - had to hop down the stairs at the local YMCA to the ambulance with my foot pointing backwards. It didnt feel too good.

MLB took them down. They even took down my Eckersley swearing video down yesterday. Asses.

Yes we were sitting in turn 3 we were playing a club up the street that night. Some of the crowd had been there also. They were almost angry at the speedway at that time...safety did not come to the speedway for 25 more years with the soft walls...

Oof. Hate to see that happen. Pitchers can get it pretty bad too, Kaz Ishii shattered his eyesocket on a comebacker and was never the same.

I got two that stand out.
When I was a beach guard they always told us to "pop" our oars when coming in on a wave ..well, a veteran guard who should have known better didn't and she ended up with the handle of the oar in her vagina..blood was everywhere..best part.. when she was in the hospital, her mother didn't believe that it was an oar but that it was an ectopic pregnancy, and started berating her.
Another was at a swim meet at GW my roommate was swimming the 100 free, came down to the touch, and my roomie hits the wall and there is an aweful shriek of pain..he girlfriend goes..gee, I didn't think his time was that bad..well it wasn't, what was was the left shoulder that appeared to be in the middle of my friend's back.
He had a screw put in as a kid from an old football injury to keep his shoulder from popping out..well the joint went under the screw.
